Our home

Attractive and cosy stone Cottage built in 1850s set in the quiet hamlet of Harelaw at the edge of Edinburgh city boundary, but just 5 miles/8 km to the centre. The cottage is semi-detached and was part of an old school for the local mining community. It features two large double bedrooms (the second can be set up as a twin), seperate newly refurbished bathroom (with shower over free standing bath). Combined living room and dining room (seats 4) with large sofa and TV, DVD, Stereo, laptop and games console. Modern kitchen with lots of gadgets (we like to cook!). Garden at the front of the house features a terraced area with chimney, barbecue and car drive. A separate futon can be set up in the living rooms if extra beds are needed.

Who we are

  1. Both I (Jon) and my wife (Erin) are PhD educated Scientists in our 30's. My wife is a researcher at the University of Edinburgh and I work for a biotech company. We are primarily (at the moment) looking for a swap in Adelaide (South Australia) in mid-January 2015 because my wife will be on sabbatical at the University of Adelaide for a few months and I will be working across Australia. Our home will also be available Christmas/New year (excellent in Edinburgh!) as we will be in New South Wales visiting family.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Harelaw is a hamlet set in a semi-rural area at the south-side of the city of Edinburgh with easy access by car to airport (14miles/23km) or centre (5miles/8km). For public transport it is 20 minutes walk or 2 minutes by car to bus links into Edinburgh centre. Edinburgh has lots of historic attractions (Edinburgh castle, royal mile, Scott monument), galleries and museums (Scottish national gallery and portrait gallery, national museum of Scotland), amazing parks and gardens (Arthurs Seat, Royal botanical gardens) and numerous excellent restaurants (5 with Michelin stars). We are also close to lots of other attractions in the surrounding area such as Roslin Chapel, Pentlands Hills Regional Park, Glenkinchie distillery and in easy driving distance of some must see places such as St Andrews, Stirling and Glasgow.
