Our home

It's basically a Victorian classroom - part of a converted 19th century school - light and airy with morning and afternoon sun. Classes were large in those days but I imagine the apartment is compact by North American standards. Our home is on the ground floor - apart from the second mezzanine bedroom the apartment is wheelchair accessible. A small yard is crammed with plant pots and has table and chairs for alfresco eating. Kitchen area in main living room, good for sociable living, and solid Victorian construction means you don't hear the neighbours. Parking - car available (again small by north American standards).

Who we are

  1. We moved into London when our three children left home - one is now in Vancouver and about to make us grandparents, hence the plan to exchange. (Yes, our first time - for both an exchange and a grandchild.)
I write for the Guardian newspaper and Barbara is currently taking a break from teaching. We would be interested in a single exchange for the whole period or two separate arrangements.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Stoke Newington is a lively, diverse area of north London with a plethora of good restaurants (Indian, Turkish, Caribbean, Chinese and even English) and excellent transport links to the centre of London - buses, approx every 10 minutes, take about 40 minutes to central London, or 50 minutes to Borough Market aka Foodie Heaven.
Convenient for Kings Cross railway station, departure point for north of England and Scotland. London is hub for low-cost air links to Europe - with an early start you can be in Pisa for lunch!
