Our home

A period home backing onto a lake with fishing. The house has open fires with 2 comfortable family rooms and a lovely kitchen- diner. The house has a formal feel but it is just a comfortable family home with a stone terrace and outdoor dining with patio furniture and heating. There are two and a half bathrooms. The three double bedrooms, one of which is en suite are all spacious and comfortable. There is also a childs single ....or a put up and a single. There is a sofa bed downstairs which is really only suitable for young people with young backs!!! There is a gas bbq and outdoor games like badminton, basketball hoop etc etc.

Who we are

  1. I am Maggie and I manage a social work fostering agency. Dave is a specialist engineer in the food industry. Libby is 16 and hoping to study medicine. She plays the flute and works locally in her spare time. Henry is 13, really sporty, and wants to work as a railway engineer. He has diabetes and injects 4 x daily..but manages really well. Molly is 6 and is bright and enthusiastic but VERY well behaved and respectful. We love walking on the hills behind the house and all across Yorkshire and the lakes. We are sociable people with friends and colleagues who we see regularly. We love to travel and have at least three foreign holidays every year. We have two cars a volvo xc90 7 seater and an Audi A4 station wagon both are less thanone year old and may be available for the exchange.
We love to eat out and can recommend great food in ALL the places we have listed above and more. We have a rabbit which lives in its own little house outside and a friend will feed it while we are away.
We go to Tuscany each year and could recommend a fantastic area near Florence to explore from. So I suppose we are not just offering our expertise on the beautiful area that we live in but can help you to explore further afield. To give you some idea its 45 mins Dublin, 50 mins Amsterdam, 105 Rome, 110 Prague. My sister is a travel agent just ask if you want to know something!

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Rawdon is a village 6miles from Leeds, 8 miles from the historic spa town of Harrogate and 26 miles from York. It is a beautiful spot with a 12 mile drive out to some of the most picturesque villages in england in the Yorkshire dales. We are so close to the airport you could walk but because of the rolling hills you never hear a plane. You can get flights to Dublin, Nice(France) Prague (Czec Rep) Rome and Venice (work it out) Spain, etc for really low costs if you get organised or organized and plan ahead. (we pay about $100 return to all the above by booking 8 months early). This truly is a fantastic base to do Great Britain and Europe from. Scotland is 3 hours away, London is 2 by train. There are local pubs, great restaurants and clubs. Leeds is one of the best cities in the UK to live in and to visit with a booming tourist industry. York is a MUST for any visitor to these shores and as my family ran a hotel for 20 years when I was growing up I consider myself a bit of an expert on the tourist trail. We lived in London for 14 years and may well be able to find accommodation for you with close friends there or nearby. As we have children we can advise on things to do for children and maybe help the kids to make new friends. The coast is only an hour away with so much to see like whitby- the home of captain cooke. The truth is that where we live is the heart of England with the friendliest people and the loveliest views and the best food and the warmest beer!
