Our home

Our home is a top floor flat in a traditional red sanstone building in the upmarket west-end of Glasgow. The kitchen and living-room are the highlights, catching a lot of light in the morning (kitchen) and afternoon/evening (living-room) offering views over the city to the hills. Both are spacious and relaxing. It is a one-bedroom flat but there is a boxroom that we use as a spare bedroom. The flat is bright, comfy and warm. The west-end galleries, coffee shops and museums are within walking distance, and the flat is well-located for buses and trains to the city-centre. One thing we treasure is that the fellow occupants of the building are friendly, quiet and considerate.

Who we are

  1. We are a Scottish/Japanese family living in Yokohama during autumn, winter and spring and spending our summers at the the Glasgow apartment. I am in education and filmmaking, while my wife is a designer. We have two children, a girl of five and and a boy of three at the time of writing. Our holidays are planned around the children; we believe in the maxim that if they are happy on holiday, the parents are happy! We have been to a variety of places already (Amsterdam, Borneo, Guam, Fremantle, Seoul, Arran) and are willing to consider all offers. We would like to exchange emails beforehand and get to know potential exchangers.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The neighbourhood is very much a community, with traditional corner shops including a newsagents/grocers downstairs, a Chinese take-away, post-office, award-winning three-star restaurant, hardware shop, cafe, hairdressers/barbers and gents and ladies outfitters. There are three excellent and spacious parks nearby, featuring rose gardens, duck ponds and fossil groves, as well as the usual swings and slides. There are two supermarkets (large and medium sized) a ten-minute walk away. There is also an excellent nursery on the same street willing to accommodate short-stay children. Our daughter has many happy memories of her time there.
