Property features

Who we are

  1. We're Zayla and Chris, a couple in our early 40s and married for nearly 15 years. We have a 20 year-old daughter (Grace) and a 13 year-old daughter (Millie). Grace has now moved out of the family home having bought an apartment with her partner and little boy, but they would still be interested in joining us on a home swap holiday!

  2. Zayla is a Deputy Head Teacher and Special Needs Manager, and enjoys photography, good food and reading. She has a creative flair but doesn't put it to good use as often as she'd like.

Chris works as a mechanic and has a real passion for restoring classic cars and generally being very creative with may even want to spend one of your nights in the mini camper van he built last year! When not messing about in his garage, Chris enjoys clay pigeon shooting and going to car shows.

  3. We moved into our home just over two years ago and we're slowly making improvements and adding our own personality.

We enjoy dining out, spending time with our family and relaxing in front of our woodburner with a bottle of wine and a good film.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our house lies on one of the main roads into Hereford but on the very outskirts of the city, making it a perfect destination for both a rural retreat and a city break. We are a 5-minute drive from the local train station, and the beautiful and historic town centre of Hereford city is within a 30-minute walking distance. The home is very private and although we have neighbours, their houses are enough of a distance away to maintain the privacy of our property.

Best restaurants
Beefy Boys or The Burger Shop (beautiful gourmet burgers made from locally-sourced produce), Ponte Vecchio (small, family-run Italian), Bunch of Carrots (wonderful English pub set in the beautiful Herefordshire Countryside),
The Barrels pub - great beer, great atmosphere, perfectly British. Plenty of other bars and restaurants are easily accessible from our home. The Old Market centre has some lovely eateries and a multiscreen cinema, and the Courtyard Theatre is also worth a visit, espe Kelly if you have time for food and wine beforehand.
Favourite cafés
The Little Kupcake Cafe, The Potting Shed (cafe inside Radway Garden Centre, less than a 2-minute drive from our home), Cookies (family run cafe in the centre of Hereford.
Where to go shopping
The Old Market shopping centre for chain stores, or visit Church Street in town or take a 15 minute drive to the market town of Ledbury - both will offer some wonderful independent shops, perfect for gifts to take home.
Your area's cultural and historical landmarks
Hereford Cathedral (including the historic Chained Library and the world-famous Mappa Mundi), Symonds Yat, Tintern Abbey, Goodrich or Ludlow castles, the Black & White House
Local walks
Far too many to mention - beautiful surroundings across all corners of Hereford but the areas around the River Wye offers some truly spectacular walks.
Places you love to exercise
Round the corner from the house is a local park area (Aylestone Park) which contains a good track for walking or jogging, including exercise spots. Other than that you could visit Holmer Park (5 minute drive) or Alexander Park (15 minute drive) for a relaxing spa experience.
Top day trips
Symonds Yat; a drive through our beautiful black and white villages; Tintern Abbey; shopping in one of our market towns - Ledbury, Ross-on-Wye or Leominster; The historic Hay-on-Wye, famous for its book shops and it's literary festival.
