Our home

Our home is a thatched cottage dating back to around 1620, set in about half an acre of garden. The cottage is Grade II Historically Listed and is a fine example of a Lobby House. It still retains its original features, such as inglenook fireplaces, a wealth of oak beams and some wattle and daub panels. A word of warning, the beamed ceilings are low, mostly about 6ft to 6ft 4". Although full of old world charm it has all modern facilites including a zonal electic heating system. In the summer it is woderfully cool even on the hottest of days. Our home is situated in the country, on the edge of the New Forest National Park, but not far from the city of Southampton which is fifteen minutes away.
The Kitchen is well equipped with modern appliances, fridge with ice maker, electric stove with induction hob, dishwasher and granite worktops. There is a utility room for laundry with a sink, worktops, washing machine and dryer. The dining room is a good size with a fireplace and a wood burning stove. The sitting room also has a fireplace with a wood burning stove. It is a very comfortable room with Satellite HD Television, surround sound and HiFi. The main bathroom is on the ground floor and has a full bath and separate shower. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms, one has a double 4'6 bed and the other has a Queen Ann 4' bed. In between the bedrooms there is a Jack & Jill toilet with wash basin.

Property features

Who we are

  1. We are Clive and Cindee a professional married couple that have taken early retirement. We are in our mid fifties and have been home exchanging for over twenty years. We have had some wonderful experiences and made some very good friends along the way. We would be happy to provide references.
We are now looking for a long term exchange. We are staying in Gulf Shores Alabama from the 12th of May - 2nd of June on a non simultaneous exchange, but will be leaving the U.K. on the 7th of May. Therefore our home is avaliable from May 7th until mid July 2012. In the United States we would prefer the east coast or the Gulf of Mexico side of Florida, but would consider all other options. In Europe we favour Italy or France.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Although our cottage is located down a country lane, local amenities are not far away. There are two village shops, a post office and three pubs within a mile. Southampton is about 15 minutes away by car with theatres, cinemas, restaurants, galleries, museums; well just about every thing one usually finds in a large city. The beautiful new forest with its wild ponies, donkeys and cattle is 2 miles away.
Our home is ideally located on the central south coast. Its not far to historical cathedral cities such as Winchester, Salisbury, Chichester and delightful coastal towns such as Lymington and Poole. Or just take a ferry from Southampton or Lymington to the Isle of Wight for the day. London with all it has to offer is only an hour away and there is a fast efficient rail link from Southampton.
