Our home

We are looking for non simultaneous exchange for 3 Aug to 10 Aug 2018, our house is free.

Our flat in Marchmont Crescent is over 130 years old and we have lived here for about twelve years. There is direct access to our back garden which gets the sun until about 4pm in the afternoon. There is a little front garden and we sometimes sit out there in the late evenings, the neighbours are very friendly. The flat is very generous in size with high ceilings throughout. It has lots of original features like the marble fireplaces and ceiling mouldings but we have up-to-date central heating, a modern well equipped kitchen and bathroom.

I live here with my wife and daughter and we have a spare room for guests, so the flat comfortably sleeps five.

Who we are

  1. I work locally as a graphic designer and my wife works at the University, our little girl goes to school nearby. We moved to Edinburgh twenty five years ago because we love the country and the city and we can't imagine living anywhere else. We like to have a sunny break now and again and we have done house swaps occasionally. We are keen to advise anyone on how to have a great holiday in Edinburgh. We would welcome guests to our house and expect them to look after our house as we would take great care of theirs.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Marchmont is a beautiful Victorian area of south Edinburgh, famous for its Baronial style tenement flats. It has a village feel to it with a clutch of small local shops and little supermarkets. You can buy fish at Eddies and fresh croissants at the Co-op, organic vegetables on Argyle place and Cheese at Wedge and there are about six great coffee shops, and a local gallery where I sell my paintings. You can walk to the Meadows park in five minutes where there is tennis, two kids' playparks, croquet, football and cricket. There are also two swimming pools 10 minutes away.

Marchmont is a 15minute walk across the Meadows from the old town centre of Edinburgh - the castle at the top of the ancient Royal Mile and Holyrood Palace and Arthur's seat at the bottom. Edinburgh is a world class city with the most impressive architecture anywhere and everything within easy reach. The 41 bus stops outside our flat and takes you straight into the city.

Beyond the city to the south are the beautiful beaches of East Lothian and the rolling countryside and secret castles of the Borders. To the north and west are the famous highlands and islands of Scotland.
