Our home

Secured my swap for summer 2010. Destinations for 2011 welcomed.

Great flat/apartment (first floor) in a traditional Victorian tenement building, right at the heart of Edinburgh's historic 'Old Town,' seconds from the vibrant 'Royal Mile' and 10 mins walk from Waverley train station, (where you are dropped off from the airport transfer bus).

Very comfortable for 2/3 people. Light, clean, quiet and tastefully decorated home in central location. A mix between modern, art deco and retro style: an oasis of calm amid the buzz of the city.

There's my beautiful double bedroom; a bright and happy single bedroom set up for a small child. There's a nice size front room with high speed internet, hifi, radio and lots of books.

My kitchen is ample and bright, and has all the essentials for cooking and cleaning. My bathroom is small but perfectly formed and includes a bath with shower over. Out the back there is a communal courtyard/drying area.

This is my pretty and charming family home, which has everything required for comfortable living.

Who we are

  1. We are a family of two. I'm Alex, (34), Mother to Beda, my beautiful daughter who is two. I would like to take the opportunity to explore some other countries before returning to work. I love books, music, the arts, good food, walks, nature and people! I am looking for a child friendly holiday close to budget airlines/good cheap public transport/taxi links.

My first swap to Spain has been a great experience.

Rest assured, I would look after your home as I would my own and am happy to look after friendly pets. This is my main home, so it would have to be a simultaneous exchange.

Your neighbourhood

The beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site of Edinburgh has architectural and historical sites of interest at every turn. If culture is your thing, museums and galleries abound. There's theatres, arthouse/cinemas, comedy venues and nightclubs all within walking distance of my flat.

There are multifarious bars, restaurants/cafes and grocery stores all close by. A good deli/cafe using fresh local produce is situated directly beneath the flat, great for coffee/cake and breakfast/lunch. If you wanted to arrange a tour of the Highlands and Islands the tour operator is just next door.

There are beautiful city parks very close by for a picnic or stroll and Arthur's Seat for a short hike. The renowned Botanic Gardens is a 25 min. walk/10 min. bus ride. For the more active, a wide network of cycle paths/walks criss-cross the city.

If you tire of city exploits, Edinburgh with it's strong transport links is the perfect base from which to explore the great outdoors. The Pentland hills are on your doorstep, The Trossachs with it's typical Scottish Lochs and Benns is an hour or so away or The Highlands can be reached in 3 hrs.

Of course, you could make a trip during August to experience the biggest arts festival in the world, 'The Edinburgh Fringe.' With street performers on the Royal Mile, and shows from the sublime to the ridiculous at hundreds of venues across the city, if you're a lover of the 'arts' you'll be in heaven.
