Our home

My home is practical and pleasantly arranged. It is an excellent base for exploring Edinburgh and the rest of Scotland. The neighbours are friendly and quiet. The garden gets the sun until 3pm and the flat is filled with sun all afternoon and evening. There are two bedrooms, both with double beds. In the sitting room there is a double sofabed. The kitchen is small but has good appliances and storage. The bathroom is modern. You are welcome to use the computer which has broadband internet access.

Who we are

  1. I am a writer and tutor of creative writing. I have a degree in Textile Design and in Literature. I teach adults and am working on two novels. My daughter is seventeen and atttends the best independent school in Scotland - Fettes College (where Tony Blair was educated). She enjoys photgraphy, sculpture, riding, army camps and shopping. She is hoping to get an internship with a fashion magazine or designer next summer, so our exchange would be wherever that was. I have exchanged houses several times, going to France, Italy and Spain so I am an experienced exchanger.

Your neighbourhood

The apartment is on a long avenue, ten minutes walk from the main shopping street (Princes street) and with a newsagent, church and supermarket in walking distance. There is a pond nearby and the Botanic Gardens are on the other side of the pond. In nearby Stockbridge there are pubs, restaurants, shops and a theatre.
There are buses to the centre and also to outlying areas. Edinburgh is full of galleries, museums, theatres, cinemas and concert halls. In August there is the famous Festival, Fringe and Book Festival. At Christmas there is a market, funfair and iceskating in the gardens. At New Year there is a big street party with live bands. The city has many places of historical interest as well as all the amenities of a modern city.
