Our home

Our home is precious to us + we hope it will be to you too. It's old + modern, quiet, airy, colourful, quirky + adaptable with French windows to spectacular roof terrace with views of Blackford Hill + Arthur Seat. It's 2 minutes walk to a well stocked local shop + bus stop.
You enter at ground level down a short path. On opening the front door, there is a wide, bright 17 carpeted steps up to the main floor where we find...........
The living room - a sanded floor, a bay window, side window, oak fireplace, 3 piece suite + smart TV.
The modern, dining kitchen - all the usual amenities, large window + utility room off with velux window.
The main bedroom is to the front, with double window, sanded floors + feature fireplace.
The rear bedroom overlooks the garden, also has a feature fireplace + can be a single, double or twin room. Also has sanded floor.
The bathroom has a large window + a large bath, toilet + sink.
Up a narrow stair, the studio bedroom on the upper level has a modern en suite + a comfortable well sprung double sofa bed. We feel it is better than with a permanent bed, as the space is ideal for relaxing + entertaining in as well as sleeping. It has 2 velux windows + 3 door French windows which open fully onto the spacious terrace overlooking the garden. A perfect place to relax + soak up the evening sun. There are 2 tables, 4 upright chairs which convert into sun recliners, a fridge + more crockery. The stairs up the studio are narrow + steep.
There is a small older electric shower near the front door, before you go up the full flight of stairs.
Outside, there is a small lawn with flowers to the front, and to the rear, a large, enclosed, peaceful, garden mainly lawn, , with small pond, BBQ + swing, table + chairs. Great for relaxing.
We love living here, it's not a second home or a hotel, there are bound to be things about it that may not be to your taste, or are not in perfect condition, but we hope you will feel it has all you need for your stay, that you can relax after seeing the sights, sleep + eat well here, + be lucky enough to see some sun.

Who we are

  1. We are a retired, Scottish couple in our 60s.. Both of us have travelled widely throughout our lives. Brian had a language school in Barcelona where he lived for 30 years.
He has a PhD in literature + is a lover of life, an avid reader, great cook, philosopher and appreciates all aspects of the arts. .
Rhona was a criminal defence lawyer for too many years, who likes travelling, socialising, music and dance.

Between us, but basically Brian, we speak English, French, Catalan + Spanish

We are flexible on dates, so prefer travelling outwith school holidays, if possible, to take advantage of cheaper flights.

We like culture + nature, + bit of warmth for our bones + souls. We like to travel just ourselves, but also with friends with similar ages + outlooks.

We have had 5 very successful exchanges. 2 in France, one in Granada, one in Copenhagen, one in anime’s and the last in Rome this year. We hope to enjoy the potential of whatever your home + area has to offer in return for a similar comfortable, safe, stimulating experience .

The leafy tree lined road has free on street parking. The area is close to the grange + marchmont and has a regulars bus service to the centre (15 mins) or a brisk 30 minute walk.
There is a nearby hill with a duck pond + river.
It is safe to walk or jog.
The neighbours are friendly + the nearby shop is well stocked, + open from 8 am until 8 pm, every day. It sells great croissants.
We are not far from Warrender Baths ( from the Victorian era) + the modern Commonweath Pool. Both have gyms.
We are near the university of Edinburgh + all the many attractions which Edinburgh has to offer are easily accessible.
There are so many art galleries, museums, castles, gardens + parks in Edinburgh, as well as rivers + a beach. It is a lovely open city, easy to walk around. There are many festivals, - the jazz n blues, film, folk, + the very famous Edinburgh international festival + fringe.
Edinburgh is also a good base to explore Scotland, the spectacular highlands + borders, with their spectacular scenery, + sites of historical + architectural significance, as well as the further Highlands + islands
