Our home

Ann Street is regarded as the best address in Edinburgh and is in all the guidebooks. In the summer months during the International Festival our house would rent for at least $12 000 a week, so please offer like for like. Your home doesn't have to be large but it does have to be special either in location or decor for us to consider an exchange for our Edinburgh house. Otherwise, please consider our cottage in Skye. Our Edinburgh home is on a beautiful Georgian street, quiet, leafy, cobbled road, the houses with front and back gardens next to the river, the Water of Leith. A short walk through the Georgian New Town or through the private park at the end of the street (we have keys) takes you to the centre of Edinburgh. An even shorter walk to Stockbridge the prettiest 'village' in the city with delis, cafes, boutiques. Another short walk and you are at the Botanic Gardens.

From the top floor of our house you can see the sea. We have lovely, peaceful front and back gardens designed by a famous garden designer. We have furnished our house with lots of antiques but it is also comfy and relaxed - well-behaved children are welcome. (Our children, age 4 and 1, are extremely well-behaved and are used to looking after beautiful homes - we have white carpets in our house!) The whole bottom floor is a playroom (and the private park has a playpark!)

A wonderful retreat right in the heart of this historic city - probably the most beautiful city in the UK.

Who we are

  1. We are a couple in our 40's with two lovely children who are EXTREMELY well- behaved and used to treating their own and other peoples' houses with respect: no sticky fingers here!

We love to travel and have travelled widely. We're hoping for a nicely furnished place in a great location in our favourite locations the Caribbean, Europe and the UK. Please note we do not wish to travel to Australia/NZ/Canada at this time. Please say which property you are interested in when you contact us - Edinburgh or Skye. Thank you.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Come to Edinburgh during the International and Fringe Festival (or any of the other myriad festivals in the summer: science, jazz, film, book....) or in the winter to celebrate Xmas with Edinburgh's new 'Winterwonderland' an outdoor fair and Xmas market, and the famous street parties/firework displays of Hogmanay.

Edinburgh, of course, is the capital of Scotland and has fabulous shops, galleries, restaurants and even a Harvey Nichols all within an immensely historic setting, the centrepiece being the castle and the medieval Old Town. You will be staying in the New Town - not so new as it was built in the 18th and 19th Century!

You can go dry skiing in Edinburgh or drive two hours or so to the slopes. We have many beaches, the nearest about 15 minutes away. Gullane, about 30 minutes away has fantastic golf next to the sea. You can hillwalk in Edinburgh up Arthur's Seat or into the wilds of Perthshire a mere 1 hour's drive away.

We also have a very sweet cottage on the idyllic Isle of Skye in the Highlands of Scotland (see the last two photos - we can send you more. It sleeps 4 plus 2 on sofa bed and has fabulous views over a sea loch and mountains. For complete tranquillity, for walking, fishing, boating or just gazing at the unbelievable scenery, we'd recommend it. A really romantic place with open fire, and raeburn in the kitchen, it is furnished in country style and is very cosy. Sandpit and climbing frame for children plus beaches of course! A truly special place.
