Our home

Our home is a modern townhouse (10 years old), decorated in a contemporary style, easy to enjoy, live in and maintain. It has a well designed modern kitchen with small breakfast table and a separate utility area in the integral garage.(good for bikes, muddy boots, recycling and storage!) The dining room and lounge are south facing (enjoying the sunshine all day and early evening) - linked to the patio/ garden it is ideal for al fresco wining and dining! The garden, whilst small, looks out over mature woodland, is very private and easy to look after. There is a downstairs toilet /washbasin off the hallway. Up the stairs ... The main bedroom has an ensuite shower room and toilet (fully tiled with vanity unit) and considerable wardrobe /storage area. The main family bathroom has a bath with a shower over the bath and is tiled with a mirrored alcove wall and a useful bathroom storage cupboard. The other rooms on the first floor, include 2 further bedrooms, one with a double bed, another with a single. There is a fourth small room useful as a study or storage. All rooms have a thermostatically operated radiator and the house is very efficently designed and serviced. There is parking for 2 medium sized cars on the front drive. We have an arrangement with a local domestic cleaning agency on a monthly basis, as a minimum maintenance arrangement, but it is likely that this can be enhanced by exchange guests if required.

Who we are

  1. Hi we are Lynne and David, now freelance, mid to late 50s ,both with professional backgrounds.
    We have recently (April 2011) completed a 'mega trip' which included a great house exchange in New Zealand .
    We are keen to repeat the exchange experience -although for the time being we are in the market for shorter exchanges in Europe only

Our home is located in a small friendly ?close', a fifteen minute walk, on pathways through woods and along the river from the centre of beautiful Durham City (3 minutes by bus or car). Durham is a small relaxed historic city. As well as the World Heritage cathedral and castle site, it offers a lovely riverside, good quality restaurants, a theatre, shopping centre, lots of pubs, cafe's and sports facilities, and many opportunities to walk, in town or countryside and explore. By car, the Scottish Borders, Hadrian's Wall, the Yorkshire Dales, The Northumberland Coast, York City and the Yorkshire Moors are each about 1 hour's drive away, and the Lake District 2 hours. The main East Coast Railway line directly connects Durham with London in 2.5 hours, to York in 1 hour, to Edinburgh in 2hours, and, to our local ?big city' Newcastle in 20 minutes. Newcastle has excellent shopping, a vibrant night life, excellent theatre, top class football and rugby, the Sage Concert Hall and a spectacular urban riverscape. Our local airports are Newcastle and Durham/Tees Valley, - each about 45 minutes away by car. In short we offer a relaxed leafy urban base with lots of local interest, and the opportunity to reach many other beautiful and interesting places with ease.
