Our home

Our house is a semi-detached Victorian property located across from a beautiful park less than 10 minutes from the city centre of Dundee. It is in a beautiful street with lovely neighbours. There is a period feature gas flame fire in the living room. The kitchen is a large, well resourced, sociable room and has a large oak dining table which can seat 8. The room leads onto an open plan family area with a sofa, television and X Box, with a view onto the garden and a piano and drum kit and several guitars for any musical visitors. There is a separate toilet downstairs and an office/computer room which overlooks the back garden. There is one double bedroom with a king sized bed and beautiful views across the park. The other 2 bedrooms are a large twin with bunk beds and a smaller bedroom with a single cabin bed. The bathroom is very spacious and has a bath and separate double sized shower. There is a trampoline in the garden. Parking is on the street in front of the house and never a problem to get space. We have many games, toys, books and dvds for visitors young and old.

Who we are

  1. Hello, I am Maria, 53 and my husband is Alan, 51. I am a drama teacher in primary schools and my husband works in I.T. in the banking sector in Edinburgh. We have 3 children, age 16, 13 and 11. They are all very musical and there are many instruments in the house. We have house swapped 6 times now and we have loved every experience. Our first house swap was to Valencia, Spain in 2014. Since then we have been to Gambais, near Paris, Normandy in France, Ely in Cambridgeshire, England, Salon de Provence in France and last year Burlington in Canada. Each time has been very successful for both parties and we have made some lovely friends in the process. We are very keen to do it again as it was a wonderful way to experience the culture of another country and we can't imagine travelling any other way now. We are limited to school holidays. 1 week each in October, Christmas and April, and 6 weeks in the summer months in July and early August. Our children are well behaved. We enjoy outdoor pursuits and exploring cities. We are looking to continue our exciting adventures by house swapping again! We would be more than happy to help any house swap partners with information in advance on what they could do while here. We leave many brochures and guides for you when you arrive. Our neighbours are lovely and would be happy to give you any local help too while you stayed here. We will take excellent care of your home as if it were our own. We look forward to hearing from you.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The immediate area feels very quiet and restful due to the 2 parks beside the house. A walk of less than 5 minutes takes you to a local shopping area with everything you need including a small supermarket, post office, chemist and banks. The city centre is a 15 minute walk or a quick 5 minute bus ride. The public transport is very good and the bus is at the end of our street. Dundee is a great location for various holiday pursuits. It sits on the banks of the River Tay, famous for some of the best salmon fishing in Scotland, and is close to many beautiful, sandy beaches. The city has good shopping, a great theatre, cinemas, restaurants, pubs and a thriving, live music scene. Local tourist attractions are great including the newly built V & A Mumseum, The Discovery (Captain Scott's ship which sailed to the Antartic) The Verdant works (a local and interactive history museum) and the McManus Museum & Art Gallery. There is a swimming pool and leisure centre, which opened in the summer of 2013. As a parent of 3 children I can assure you that there is lots to do for families even on a rainy day! Dundee is perfectly situated for a city holiday as well as being a good location for outdoor pursuits. Within 5 minutes you can be in beautiful countryside. We are close to the lovely hills of the Angus glens, great for hill walkers. There are several gorgeous beaches close by - Broughty Ferry, (5 mins) Tentsmuir, (15 minutes) Lunan Bay, Carnoustie and St Andrews (20 mins). There are also great golf courses in many of these areas as well as Dundee itself including Gleneagles and St Andrews. St Andrews is a beautiful little historic university town on the coast. If you want to travel further while here, Edinbugh is approx 1 hour drive, Perth is 20 minutes, Aberdeen is one hour and Glasgow is one hour and a half. There are several historic castles to visit within a short car journey including Glamis Castle. The Cairngorms National park, which has beautiful mountains and scenery, is less than a 2 hour drive away. Culture, history, nature and city life all within easy reach of this lovely city.
