Our home

Our home is very comfortable. The large lounge area over-looks the rural landscape with beautiful views to the Lake District National Park fells. There is a log-burner which creates a wonderful cosy atmosphere on colder winter days. The large eating kitchen is very well equipped with all appliances. There are 4 bedrooms 2 double bedded rooms with en-suite bathrooms, 1 other double and 1 single room. There is access to the internet and wifi throughout most of the house. The very large private garden surrounds the house. Double doors from the lounge lead out on to a large terrace with barbeque and outdoor dining. We love to spend time in the garden enjoying the abundant wildlife which includes the rare native Red Squirrel. Many birds come to feed at the birdtable.

Who we are

  1. We are Rod (65) & Hilary(64) I am a recently retired school principal and Hilary a recently retired primary school teacher. We are both very active and love walking, cycling and swimming. Hilary also loves shopping! We have two boys Matthew 37 & David 35 who are both married and living away. We have three grandchildren who are 4years and 2years and our latest one month old. We have travelled extensively and enjoyed house exchanges in North America, Canada and Australia. We have always exchanged cars as well as houses and would wish to do this again. We really enjoy getting to know our fellow exchangers before the exchange takes place. We love recommending places to visit and things to do ensuring that our visitors have a very memorable stay. We are able to offer non-simultaneous exchanges as we have both a caravan and a villa in Turkey.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

This is a very rural location on the edge of the Lake District National Park, only 3 miles from the ancient market town of Cockermouth, the birth place of poet William Wordsworth. We are only minutes from beautiful fells and lakes with some of the best walking and scenery in the national park. Much of the movie about Beatrix Potter was shot in our area. Cockermouth has two excellent supermarkets to supply all your grocery needs along with many quaint traditional shops. There are a number of award winning restaurants. In walking distance of the house is a traditional pub serving excellent food and beer. More extensive shopping is available in the historic town of Carlisle only 40 minutes away. This is an ideal location for many adventurous sports including mountaineering, mountain biking, sailing and canoeing. The Lake District is the premier national park in the UK. There are many attractions for young children. Our area is an ideal base for touring not only Northern England but also Scotland & Ireland. Edinburgh is a 2 hour drive and Ireland a 3 hour drive followed by a short ferry crossing. London is a 4 hour train journey away.
