Our home

The Old School House was built for the school teachers who taught at the village school (which is attached to the house and is now the village hall). The house is not large but is nicely proportioned with great views over the valley and the old church. The house has connections with Thomas Hardy as his sister is said to have lived in the house when she was a teaching assistant at the school.
The house has a large kitchen with a stone floor, large dining table in cherry wood. The kitchen also has a traditional aga which keeps it warm. There is a sitting room with an open fireplace where coals and logs can be used. Upstairs there is a large bathroom with a shower, bath tub and toilet. There is one large bedroom with a large double bed and a smaller bedroom with two singles. Both rooms have lovely views over the valley.

Who we are

  1. I am Emily, a lawyer who has been living here in London for around 15 years, I enjoy what London has to offer with its great theatres, art exhibitions, restaurants and shops. I have not done a home exchange before but I am now looking to spend some time in California in Sept/October 2012 as my cousin is getting married near LA. I thought it would be fun to spend some time there getting to know it properly. I would love someone to enjoy London in my absence. I also have a lovely cottage in Dorset which could be used as well, during my trip to California.
I love travelling and seeing new things. I also enjoy the outdoor life, so I can advise on lots of things to do in London and Dorset.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Piddlehinton is a traditional Dorset village with a chalk stream running through it and thatched cottages. There is a village pub about a 7 min walk down the road. The village is 5 miles from the historic county town of Dorchester and 30 mins in the car from the Jurassic coast. The landscape is fabulous with rolling downs, ridges and neolithic sites to visit. The coast is very beautiful with great cliff top walks. Sherborne is 20 mins away and is a beautiful small town with an abbey. There is so much to do locally, including hiking, sailing, golf, horse riding, cycling and antique shopping.
