Our home

Our home is a comfortable, family bungalow (although it has rooms on a lower level)in a semi-rural location with wonderful far-reaching views across spectacular countryside, but actually is only 10 minutes drive from our motorway networks leading to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, the east and west seaside towns of Scarborough and Blackpool, Bronte country, and the Pennines. We have a fully equipped, spacious dining kitchen,a covered outdoor summer kitchen with barbecue, comfortable lounge and conservatory (leading on to a large terrace),family bathroom, separate W.C.,three double bedrooms, one with ensuite. The house itself faces due south and is light and sunny, even in winter, but it is still lovely and cosy to throw some logs on the fire on a cold, winter night! We also have a small office, and a sitting room with T.V. leading into a utility room situated downstairs from the kitchen, which in turn leads into our double garage - so no getting wet when its raining! We do have a cat but he won't be your responsibility, although he may call in and see you if you don't keep the cat flap locked. There is a self-contained flat at the back of our house occupied by a single friend who looks after things when we are travelling, along with our cat, so she will be on hand to happily answer any queries you may have.

Who we are

  1. We are Rob and Penny Yates, not quite retired yet, but practising at it by frequently jetting off to Australia for lengthening periods to visit our 2 sons who both live in Sydney. We have run our own company together for 30 years and love our home, but have now fallen in love with Australia, so hope to spend more and more time there in the future. We love being by the beach and particularly would like to exchange for a house/apartment with a sea view in the northern beaches of Sydney, Australia convenient for Seaforth, or anywhere in Europe as we also love exploring France, Spain and Italy.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Thornhill is a quiet, residential area, conveniently situated between the major cities of Leeds, Wakefield and Huddersfield. Manchester Airport is an hour's drive away and Leeds/Bradford Airport approx. 45 minutes. A little further away is the wonderful historic town of York and the stately, spa town of Harrogate, not to mention Manchester for shopping/sightseeing only 1 hour's drive away. A car is essential as we are not on a bus route, but if circumstances permit we would be happy to exchange cars. 0urs is a 5-door automatic Mercedes GLA220 which is perfect for a family to explore the area. There are some great country walks from our home, a very good riding school within walking distance, a ski-school with real snow half an hour's drive away and last but not least several pubs and take-aways in the area serving excellent food of all nationalities. Alternatively, if you want to have a quiet, restful holiday with just the birds for company and a glass of wine in front of a roaring fire, then our home is the place. It is not toddler friendly because of the terraced garden but if you have teenagers who want some night life then there are clubs in Wakefield 7 miles away and multiplex cinemas. We are certain you would like it here, as West Yorkshire is a great starting point for discovering spectacular hills and valleys with eye-watering views and fascinating history that this county has in abundance.
