“We had the pleasure to make a one week exchange with these family in August 2015. A very cozy and very English house not far from the center of swinging London by bus/the Tube - and very interesting for us to live in this part of London: Crouch End appeared to be nearly 'a small village in a very large city''. with good local restaurants, pubs, bakery etc. The house is carefully renovated and has a very nice garden and terrace just outside the kitchen door. When we arrived, there was good food and local beer waiting for us, and when we came home to Denmark again the children had made drawings for us! All in all an easy and very good exchange. Our warm recommendations!”
Who we are
-
We are a family consisting of a Lawyer, Project Manager and two lively children aged 10 and 12. We love our local area and living in London and cities in general, but also like to take our family holidays in places where we can explore beautiful countryside or coastline, especially rugged walks, mountains, streams, interesting beaches, family cycling or easy sailing.
We have done a several successful house swap before and are looking to do simultaneous exchanges during school holidays.

Where is it?
Your neighbourhood
Crouch End is a late nineteenth century suburb six miles from central London with good train, underground and bus links. The immediate area is friendly, residential and green but it’s a short walk to shops, pubs and restaurants. Central London is very accessible and on public transport it’s about 30 minutes to the city and 45 minutes to the west end. The area has is lots for children to do and good places to eat and drink in the evening.
The house is next to historic Alexandra Palace, which is famous for many reasons including the first ever TV transmission in the 1935 and the Technicolor Dream festival with Pink Floyd in the 1967. It is still a concert venue and Florence & The Machine played there recently. However the best bit is the large surrounding woodland park, which is great for picnics, playing, cycling etc and has panoramic views across London. It also has outdoor cafes, an ice rink, boating lake, animal enclosure, putting green and Sunday farmers market. Priory Park is also close with a playground and kids paddling pool in the summer.
Within walking distance is Crouch End centre which has boutique shops, good independent restaurants and quirky bars that stay open late at the weekend. The area has a bohemian reputation and has been the inspiration for short stories by Stephen King and Will Self (who really dislikes Crouch End). It is the setting for the comedy Shaun of the Dead which stars Simon Pegg, who lives locally. There is the Kings Head comedy club which is notorious for its polite audiences.
Crouch End has a swimming pool and lido (Park Road) and two cinemas. It is easy to get to the Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur football stadiums, Hampstead Heath and Highgate.
