Our home

Our location is perfect for exploring across the whole of the South West Peninsula. We live on the edge of a small market town that is in the middle of the Devon countryside. It's easy to get to many beaches, walking and outdoor activities across the south west
Our home is a large, modern, detached brick built house at the end of a secluded, private driveway. We have a large garden with grass and trees and a separate vegetable garden. The house is 'upside down' in the sense of living upstairs and sleeping downstairs. There are 3 double and 2 single bedrooms, a bath room and a shower room, utility with a washing machine and drying space, snug /TV room and sauna. Upstairs there's a lounge and large, bright, warm kitchen/living/dining room. The kitchen leads onto a south facing balcony with views across to Dartmoor.
The house is clean and uncluttered and in excellent condition.
Outside we have a large paved terrace. We have bicycles, outdoor furniture, a trampoline, a barbeque - both gas and charcoal. You can borrow our camping equipment if you'd like.
If you visit in the summer there will be vegetables to pick from our garden.

We have unlimited wifi and Sonos music streaming system.

Note : The house is constructed as two properties - our main house as described above and adjoining is a smaller flat which has been used by Fiona's mother. It is entirely self contained, private and has its own entrance.

Who we are

  1. We are Simon and Fiona and we have 3 daughters aged 15, 22 and 24. We also have a small dog Bobby - he is a smooth coat Brussels Griffon (
We work in arts and education. We love camping, walking, cycling and the outdoors. We have lived in this house for 13 years. We love to travel and explore new places and we are excited about the adventure of a house exchange.

  2. Simon runs a community printmaking workshop for artists - and has a studio in the back garden for his own art work. Fiona teaches drama in Exeter University though is leaving soon to pursue more creative freelance projects. When we swap homes we may or may not travel with the two older daughters - and they may or may not bring partners...we may persuade them to come but I guess it depends what is on offer !!

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The house is in the small town of Crediton only 7 miles from the ancient University and Cathedral city of Exeter. The house is in a suburban setting on the edge of the town just 750 metres to the town shops but with excellent access to the countryside. Crediton has two supermarkets and lots of other local shops - butcher, grocer, wine shop, wholefoods etc etc. There are great coffee shops and a town square with a fortnightly farmer's market. We are in the centre of the south west peninsula with an easy 60 minutes drive to the coast to north, south, east and west and some of the best beaches in the UK. We are only 40 minutes drive to the wilds of Dartmoor and 90 minutes to Exmoor in the north of Devon. Driving from our house to Cornwall would take an hour and it's only 2.5 hours to Land's End.
Our nearby city of Exeter dates back to Roman times and has theatres, cinemas, the UK 2012 museum of the year, an arts centre, galleries, good shopping and significant historical sites such as the Cathedral and city walls. One hour south of us is the maritime city of Plymouth with excellent naval history sights, shopping and seaside attractions. We are only 2 hours drive to Bristol and the train to London from Exeter is 2.5 hours.
