Our home

Our home is spacious, comfortable, clean and well organised. Although ours is a 4 bedroom home, only three are used for home exchanges. Each of the three guest bedrooms has a different sized bed - king, double and single, accommodating five people in total. There is a family bathroom with a shower over the bath and a downstairs cloakroom. The double aspect lounge overlooks both our front garden and our beautiful rear garden and pond. Our kitchen is spacious and well-equipped. We spend much of our time in the large conservatory overlooking the private rear garden where we eat all our meals in the summer and all except dinner in the winter. In summer, when the weather allows, we eat at a large table on the patio, watching the huge variety of different birds that frequent our garden. Our home is in a secluded and tranquil location, yet many amenities are close to hand.

Who we are

  1. My husband, Philip, and I are in our late 60s early 70s, retired and love to travel. We have now completed 22 home exchanges and believe it's a great way to experience life and all it has to offer in the countries we visit. We love natural history and are especially keen birdwatchers and Philip is an avid photographer. I am a keen gardener and love nothing better than pottering in our beautiful garden surrounded by the scent of lavender and roses. Philip cuts the grass and spends hours caring for the pond!

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our house is one of six houses built in a circle at the end of a private country lane. It is a 30 minute walk or 5 minute drive into Cranleigh, our nearest village, where there are three food-stores, a small department store, pubs, restaurants and many independent shops. It is a pleasant walk into the village via the Downs Link - a disused railway line that runs right down to the south coast. We cycled it once (around 40 miles)! There is a library, sports centre and a wonderful Arts Centre for films, live performances and regular exhibitions. Every Thursday a lively market sells everything from fruit and vegetables to cheeses, fresh fish, clothing, garden plants and more. 15 minutes drive away is a small railway station on the main London to Portsmouth railway line giving access into Waterloo Station in south London and Portsmouth on the south coast. The regular service into Waterloo takes around 35/40 minutes giving access to all of London's many attractions - but it is so lovely to return to the peace and quiet of our rural location after the hustle and bustle of the city. The train journey to Portsmouth is convenient for visiting the amazing Royal Dockyards where you should visit Nelson's flagship, the HMS Victory, and the impressive Mary Rose museum which opened in 2013. Surrey is a beautiful county famous for its many picturesque village greens, quintessential English pubs, beautiful walks and cycle routes. Guildford, the county town of Surrey, is just 7 miles away with cinemas, museums and shops. Brighton, with its world famous Pavilion can be reached in approximately one hour by car. There are bus services to both Cranleigh and Guildford from the bus-stop 10 minutes walk from our house.
