Our home

Our home is an old farmhouse that has been made into a family home. We have 15 acres of land - three large fields - and a very large garden with a tennis court. A river runs through the property with a footbridge over it. We have no close neighbours and in every direction are wonderful views of the moors.

In the house there are five comfortable bedrooms - one ensuite, three with double beds and one with twin beds. There is also a large family bathroom. Downstairs is a big family kitchen/dining room with an Aga and large glass doors onto the garden. There is a very comfortable lounge and a playroom full of toys. There is also a smaller single bedroom, utility room & downstairs loo. Outside in the garden is a converted barn which we use as a big playroom. There are sofas, a wood burning stove and a table tennis table. If you are a large party people can sleep in this room - there are sofas/beds but no curtains. There is also a further bedroom outside with a double bed. The house is very child friendly and comfortable. Outside it is just great for kids with the shallow river, the tennis court, the trampoline and just lots of space. More than 10 people can stay here if you don't mind sleeping in the garden room. Our house is lived in rather than immaculate but it is very comfortable.

We can also offer car exchange if needed.

Property features

Who we are

  1. We are a family of 5. Paul was in legal education until recently and Djamilla is a solicitor who works part time. We have an 22 year old son - who is in London does not always travel with us any more - an 18 year son and a 14-year old daughter. We have 21 sheep, a cat (Coco), 8 chickens and a tank of fish - although numbers change all the time due to circumstances beyond our control. If you don't want to look after Coco we can arrange for her to be looked after. We will need to leave the fish, the chickens and the sheep.

We are open to all offers including UK exchanges for half term and weekends.

We have exchanged many times over the last 10 years and always really enjoyed it.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our house is in a very rural and beautiful location within the North York Moors National Park. You will see green hills out of every window. It has no immediate neighbours and is surrounded by gardens and 15 acres of our own land. We are 10 miles from the nearest shop. At the bottom of the garden there is a tennis court and shallow river with a footbridge to another wilder garden. If you like the countryside, birds and wildlife it is really a magical place. There are walks from the house in every direction or you can drive further into the national park for many more miles of walking and biking trails.

Whitby & the North Yorkshire Jurassic coast, York, Newcastle, Durham and the Yorkshire Dales are all about an hour away. Within half an hour is Dalby forest with great mountain biking trails and a Go Ape treetop experience, The NYM Steam Railway, two theme parks - Flamingoland and Lightwater Valley - and a lot of wonderful walks. There are also some very good restaurants and pubs in the area. The nearest town is Helmsley which is a very picturesque small market town. Castle Howard is a beautiful English Country house is 20 minutes away.

Horse riding is also available nearby.
