Our home

Our home is a lovely 4 bedroomed detached house and was completely renovated in 2003. It is clean, freshly decorated and modern. The main bedroom is large and has a double bed and ensuite shower room. The second bed has a high sleeper single bed (with an additional single z bed underneath). The third bedroom has a single bed and the smallest bedroom currently accommodates a cot bed (although this could be changed to a single bed if required).

The downstairs living area has laminate flooring throughout and is mainly open plan. It consists of entrance porch, hallway, large L shaped open plan living area and kitchen. The single garage has been converted into two sections for utility equipment, storage and houses a high quality treadmill.

In the lounge, there are two brown leather sofas, a fireplace, 32" LCD TV, DVD, satellite and a huge selection of DVDs and CDs. The dining area has an extendable table (with 6 high backed brown leather chairs) and the office area has an L shaped desked area, PC with internet. The kitchen is equpped with all modern and integral appliances. There is an abundance of children's toys, games, books Playstations etc.

The rear garden is lawned and fenced and provides a safe playing area for children. The front of the house accommodates 2 parked cars and use of our 2004 model 4x4 Land Rover Freelander and 2004 Megane Seenic can also be included.

Who we are

  1. We are Steve (44)and Joanne (36), are married and have 3 children (aged 12, 6 and 3). Steve is a Station Officer in the the Fire Service and Jo is self employed as a consultant working primarily in the voluntary sector.

We did our first home exchange to Australia at Christmas and New Year 2006/07. Unfortunately, it didn't work out for us as we had expected and we ended up paying for alternative accommodation. Nevertheless, it hasn't put us off future exchanges. We have friends and family in Oz living near Perth (in Canning Vale, Thornlie and Munster) and would love to re-visit them some time again maybe in 2008/09. In the meantime, we're keen to consider any exhange options anywhere in the world at anytime of the year that coincide with UK school holidays.

Your neighbourhood

We live in a quiet housing estate within a small village near Chester le Street. Nearby attractions include Beamish Museum and the Metrocentre. The historic city of Durham is approximately 12 miles away. Newcastle and Sunderland are both approximately 25 minutes drive away. We are ideally located for tourists as the beautiful rural/coastal Northumberland is within half an hours drive. The Lake District and even Scotland are within a couple of hours drive. The nearest airport is Newcastle from which a number of budget airlines offer very competitevely priced flights to destinations including London (Stansted), Prague, Spain, Eire and France. If you prefer to travel by train, a 3 hour train journey will take you to the capital.
