Our home

We moved into this spacious and light family home in Cambridge eight years ago. There's plenty of space for our 3 children (21, 19 and 17) and there are lots of books to read! There are 4 bedrooms and a study on the first floor with a family bathroom and a shower room. The ground floor has a peaceful lounge with adjacent study area, a double bedroom with ensuite bathroom and a large kitchen diner (with table that sits up to 12) and a utility room. Outside, the pretty gardens offer a great deal of privacy and in the autumn you can help yourself to apples and pears from the fruit trees.

Who we are

  1. Having got married and given birth to our first two children in Cambridge we spent 10 years away (in London and Leicester) before returning to this beautiful city. We're enjoying cycling everywhere, and having such easy access to world class museums and concerts, and lovely cafes and shops. Our sons have loved the art in the Fitzwilliam Museum, the Greek sculptures in the Museum of Archeology, the aircraft museum at Duxford, and the waterslide at Parkside Swimming Pool. Highlights for me include cycling through town early in the morning past the truly beautiful colleges or walking from Newnham to Grantchester to sit outside in the Orchard Tearooms drinking tea and eating fresh scones. My husband (a church pastor and lecturer) loves the University Library!

Our daughter (21) is in her final year training as a nurse at university and will probably not accompany us.

We have a lovely dog, who will not travel with us, but will stay with a friend elsewhere in Cambridge.

Your neighbourhood

Lonely Planet says: "Few cities can take the breath away quite like Cambridge. It's not just its tightly packed core of exquisite architecture, or even the mind-boggling mass of brain power that has passed through its world-famous university, but also it's the sensation of drowning in history, tradition and quirky ritual that only seems to deepen the more you discover. But so too there is plentiful opportunity to come up for air, relaxing in the manicured college gardens, punting along the beautiful river Cam and roaming the lush water meadows that run out of the city." Not surprising then that Cambridge has over 4 million visitors to it each year.

We live in a quiet suburban area on the north side of Cambridge. Just over a mile to Magdalene College and punting on the Cam. You can walk to the Cambridge colleges and many museums in 25-30 minutes or cycle (bikes available) in 10-15 minutes. Outdoor swimming pool at Jesus Green 25 minutes walk. A number of good children's playgrounds easily accessible - nearest 10 minutes walk. Local food shops, newsagents, pharmacy etc 5 minutes walk. 3 miles to Cambridge Railway station with regular direct trains to central London taking only 47 minutes. Just over 1 1/2 hours (by car) to the beautiful Norfolk coast.
