Where is it?
Buxton, Derbyshire was founded by the Romans and in the 1900's became a Victorian health Spa famous for its Thermal Baths. The town nestles in a valley of the Peak District, has a population of about 12000 and is surrounded by the beautiful hills and countryside of the Peak National Park. Buxton mineral water is world famous and also feeds the local swimming pool. Chatsworth House the finest country house in England, home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire is just 30 minutes drive away. There are too many places to visit for me to list here, country walks abound and great pubs and small villages are everywhere. Buxton also has a wonderful Opera House, theatre, tea rooms, swimming pool and the Pavillion Gardens/park.For visitors from overseas you couldn't find a better place to explore the real England whether by car or on foot as this is a walkers and photographers paradise. Derbyshire dales, high rolling moorland, or just a riverside stroll with lunch in a village pub, the choices are endless. I have attached a few shots of Buxton and the surrounding area to give you an impression of just how beautiful and varied the Peak District National Park really is. Manchester international airport is about 50 minutes drive away.
