Our home

My house is a sunny, airy townhouse in a quiet, residential suburb of Bristol. There is a large lounge/diner plus a kitchen on the first floor and two double bedrooms plus the family bathroom on the second floor. The small third bedroom is now a home office and I have wifi. The bathroom has a bath and a shower over the bath. On the ground floor there is a separate toilet/cloakroom plus the garden room which leads onto a compact, sunny garden. There is a very comfortable (memory foam mattress) sofa bed in the garden room. The house is comfortably furnished and comes with a tv/dvd/cd in the living room.

Due to the configuration of open staircases, next to glass walls, the house isn't really suitable for very young children.

I have a cat, a lovely, cuddly, friendly female of 11 years old. She hates being sent to the cattery so I'd really like to exchange with other cat lovers who will look after her. I have lovely neighbours who will help out with feeding her if you're away for a few days. I had a cat sitter in my house last summer when I was in Australia for three weeks and she settled in well to this change of circumstance. I would be happy to look after dogs/cats/rabbits in exchange, but I'm not too keen on rodent type creatures!

Who we are

  1. I'm a single woman in my early fifties and I work in higher education administration. I have been fortunate enough to have travelled extensively and remain curious to see more. I could do a non-simultaneous exchange as I can stay in my brother's flat round the corner. I would most likely invite a friend to travel with me if we were able to agree an exchange.
I am open to offers and look forward to hearing from you.

Your neighbourhood

Westbury-on-Trym is a quiet, residential suburb about 15 minutes drive from the centre of Bristol or 20-25 minutes by bus. There is a good mix of single people, families and retired people. I am very fortunate to have fabulous next door neighbours and the community is generally very friendly. The village centre is about 10 minutes walk from the house and offers all you would need in terms of everyday shopping, banks, coffee shops and restaurants (one has a Michelin star). There are good bus links from the village into the centre of Bristol and beyond. The house is about 3 minutes walk from some extensive, publicly-owned woodland/parkland The Blaise Estate, which also houses a museum of ordinary life. This is just one of Bristol's many parks and open spaces which gives the city a distinctive, 'open' feel. Bristol is a vibrant city and it offers many cultural diversions - museums, art galleries, cinemas and theatres and is the home to Banksy, Wallace and Grommit and Cary Grant amongst others. Bristol has good transport links to London (1.5 hours by train) and it is well placed for easy day trips to The Cotswolds, Devon and the mountains of Wales for those who like mountain walking. Bristol has an international airport about 30 minutes drive from the house and from here you can easily take a quick break to several destinations in Europe including Paris on one of the low cost carriers.
