Our home

A comfortable Victorian house built in 1885. Comprising; 2 living rooms, kitchen breakfast room, 3 bedrooms, utility room, garage and a small walled garden where we have al fresco meals on the terrace in the summer. We have sympathetically modernised the house having retained many period features, including an open fire which we enjoy on chilly winter nights. The house has been our family home for 40 years. We brought our children up here and they now regularly have the grandchildren to visit.

Who we are

  1. We are Maggie and Bob. We are both retired. Maggie was an Occupational Therapist and Bob worked for the aero-engineering company Rolls-Royce. Together we enjoy our family, the arts, the odd bit of walking and travelling. Maggie is a keen swimmer, gardener, bee keeper, reader and cook. I enjoy badminton, driving, sailing and, when I can get away to some snow, skiing. We have been exchanging since 2005. Our next trip in 2012 will be to Sydney to visit our daughter and her family. We are looking for a place away from Sydney for 6 people (four adults and 2 children) for a two or three week stay between October and December 2012.

Your neighbourhood

We live in an urban area, with a local community feel, about a mile and a half from Bristol city centre. Most of the houses were built between 1850 and 1900. Although, if you look more closely you can find buildings which date back to the 1700's. Within walking distance there are numerous Restaurants, Bars, a few traditional English Pubs, Parks and the Gloucestershire Cricket and Bristol Rugby Grounds. Of interest in Bristol are the historic Docks, the works of I.K. Brunel, the Old Vic Theatre, Brandon Hill and the Cabot Tower, Museums and numerous Cinemas. Within easy reach are the cities of Bath, Wells, Cheltenham and Cardiff (capital of Wales), and the beautiful Costwolds countryside. Further afield are Devon, Cornwall and the Eden Project, the Brecon Beacons in South Wales and to the east, Stonehenge. London is under two hours away by train. There are various festivals in the city during the summer, including music, sailing, hot air balloning, animation and kites. Bristol is very well situated with good rail, road and air links. Bristol International Airport has good budget deals offering destinations within Britain and Europe.
