Our home

Our home is a beautiful, bow-fronted, Grade II listed period property built in 1830. Recently modernized, it's light and contemporary with white walls, painted floorboards, window shutters and light grey wool carpet. The through lounge / dining room has a comfy sofa, cute window seat, relaxing rocking chair and lots of books, DVDs and records to keep visitors entertained. The dining room / study has a table and chairs and French doors that lead to a small patio garden where we grow rosemary, thyme, sage, tomatoes and flowers. The garden can also be accessed from the kitchen / breakfast room - which is where we eat most of our meals. We love to eat all kinds of food from Thai and Indian to Soul Food and have a Kitchen Aid mixer, Food Processor, oven and gas hob alongside dozens of cookbooks and saucepans.

Upstairs features two bedrooms and a bathroom with shower, toilet and bath tub. The master bedroom has a comfy king size bed, built in wardrobes and a window seat where you can sit and watch the world go by. The second bedroom is a smaller room with a double bed, desk and computer. The room looks out onto the patio garden and like our whole house, has a cosy feel with atmospheric lighting and lots of art and photography books.

  1. We are two women in our late 30s that love traveling and living by the sea. So far, we have visited Mexico, Havana, Barcelona and San Francisco together and are looking forward to returning to California later this year. Steph is an artist and illustrator that works under the name Bonnie and Clyde. Sarah-Jane is an arts writer and festival programmer that specializes in literature and music. We both work freelance so are flexible to non-simultaneous exchanges in the future. We adore our home and would treat yours with the same love and respect.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

We live on a quiet, picturesque street in the Montpelier and Clifton Hill area of Brighton. This is a conservation area that's five minutes walk from the seafront and west Pier and two minutes walk from the main street that runs through the city. The area has a bustling, neighbour feel and there are lots of great bars, restaurants, coffee shops and grocery stores nearby.

For those that haven't visited Brighton before, it's a bohemian seaside town that's 50 minutes from London and 30 minutes from Gatwick Airport by train. Visitors describe it as a small, colourful San Francisco and we'd be inclined to agree. There's an active art scene, a wonderful independent cinema (Duke of York) and lots of entertainment venues offering everything from live music, theatre, comedy and performance art to literature events. There's also hundreds of independent boutiques, restaurants, bars and pubs dotted throughout the Lanes and North Lanes alongside historical landmarks like the Royal Pavillion, Brighton Dome and Museum. We are happy to recommend everything from the best vegetarian restaurants to coffee!

If you prefer the great outdoors, Brighton has lots of leafy parks and outdoor events and it's a short drive or bus journey to the South Downs national park and Beachy Head. The sea-front also offers plenty of opportunities to keep fit from swimming, surfing and kayaking to volleyball, cycling and rollerblading. Alternatively, you can just sit on the beach and enjoy watching the waves with a cold drink or BBQ!
