Our home

Pikes cottage is a light filled, peaceful; comfortable family home. The large sunny kitchen with a Rayburn oil fired oven has a long pine table where we sit and eat with French windows that open onto the garden for the long summer evenings. The cosy sitting room has a wood burning stove, deep sofas, oak floor and a good selection of reading material in the book shelves. The main double bedroom has an en suit shower, their is a second double bedroom and two single bedrooms (one having a ledge reached by a ladder). Their is a bathroom with sink and WC with a further WC and sink downstairs. We have two friendly cats which we could arrange to be fed by neighbours if necessary.

Who we are

  1. Peter and I are both artists, we also teach at the University. We have three grown up children who have now all left home which gives us the freedom to travel more. We are in our early sixties and love to visit different countries and experience the cultural diversity.
Sometimes we would love to bring various members of our family with us if this is agreeable.
The second home we have listed is in Hexham, Northumberland and is owned by our son Theo and his partner Fiona and their two children, Theo is a sculptor and is currently working on his PHD at Sunderland University while Fiona is a primary school teacher. They have two children a daughter aged 8 and a son aged 6. Their house swaps are in school holiday times only but they are interested in travelling all over Europe and North America.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The house is on the edge of a small Devon village with an award winning local pub and beautiful walks from our doorstep through woodland, farmland and along the river Exe, where we swim and canoe. The village is only five miles from the historic cathedral city of Exeter with its excellent museum and shops. Their is a mobile shop every Friday selling local organic produce and an organic vegetable delivery every Thursday.
The North Devon coast is an hour away and the south coast at Dawlish and Exmouth half an hours drive. Dartmoor and Exmoor, National Trust properties Killerton, Castle Drogo are Knight Hayes are all within easy reach.
