Our home

The house is a comfortable 4-bedroom detached property, with parking available on the drive, and a fair-sized garden, well stocked with flowers, trees and an attractive pond, where you can take advantage of a fine day to sunbathe on the decking or relax in the shade. The main bedroom has a 6-foot ziplink bed that can be separated into two singles if needed, and an ensuite with a power shower. There's another good sized double bedroom and a single with a futon, plus a recently refitted family bathroom with a fully enclosed bath/power shower, and a downstairs loo. (The fourth bedroom is fitted out as an office so has no bed.) There's an excellent high-speed broadband connection via cable, and visitors are welcome to use our CDs and the stereo or browse our large book collection, but please note THERE IS NO TV (and no licence to use one in the property!)

Older children are welcome but it's not suitable for younger ones, as the pond is unfenced. We have two very friendly cats who much prefer to stay at home when we go away, but we can get someone to come and feed them if you'd rather not do it yourselves. We'd prefer you not to bring any other animals into the house, but we'd be more than happy to look after any pets at your home.

Who we are

  1. Additional Information

We are Sandra and Krys, a retired professional couple in our mid-60's. We originally met through playing bridge and still play regularly, both locally and in national tournaments. Sandra also teaches bridge to beginners, while Krys runs a big website showcasing pictures of oriental birds, on which he is a well-known expert.

We've done several swaps in the UK since we retired, and have very much enjoyed getting to know some new areas of the country. We'll consider swaps of up to 2 weeks more or less anywhere, especially if there's a good birdwatching site nearby!

We would take great care to look after your property.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our house is in Bicester, which is a market town dating back to Saxon times. It's about 10 miles north-east of the world-renowned city and University of Oxford, where there's always plenty to see and lots to do any day of the week. Access by car or bus is very easy, in fact we go there ourselves several times a week.

We're also within easy reach of several lovely historic houses and gardens, including Blenheim Palace and Stowe. Stratford-on-Avon takes less than an hour by car, while the beautiful Cotswolds and Chilterns are even nearer: or, if you take the train, you can be in central London an hour after leaving home. For those with more of an interest in nature and the countryside, the RSPB's Otmoor nature reserve is nearby and there are plenty of easy walks throughout Oxfordshire, for example along the Thames and the Oxford Canal.

The local town centre, 10 minutes' walk away, is fairly small but has pleasant pubs and some good restaurants, a weekly market, a lovely old church, and a new multiplex cinema. And of course, if you enjoy shopping, the famous Bicester Village designer outlet centre is just on the other side of town.
