Our home

My home is a Victorian terrace home that has been painstakingly and lovingly restored over a period of years. Rather than being reproduced back to a Victorian property it has been sensitively modernised but always with an idea of the origins of the house. It is a calm home which reflects the architectural influence of the Finnish architect Aalva Alto by using beech wood wherever possible. There is a Danish wood burning stove, making it extremely cosy in the winter! The house is on three floors, with a double and single bedroom on the top floor. The lounge and dining and kitchen are on the ground floor - with the kitchen leading onto the garden. The basement has a single bedroom that leads onto an outdoor area too, and a front room/ double bedroom at the front. The bathroom is a beautiful 'Zen' room with a fantastic shower! The garden is small but lovely - I grow a lot of my own vegetables that anyone living here is welcome to pick and eat!

Who we are

  1. I have never done a house exchange before but have let out this house when going on holiday. Everyone who has stayed here has loved it. My partner and I love Italy and Sicily in particular. We love it because of the people, the walking, the food - Mount Etna and the sunshine. We would eventually like to live there. In the meantime holidays to get to know the island more and to improve our Italian would be fabulous. Australia is a wonderful country - the people, the outdoor life, the weather. We haven't seen too much of the country, apart from Sydney and would very much like the chance to see more. My partner and I both teach and are lucky enough to have long summer holidays - mid June to mid August as well as Christmas and Easter, plus some extra weeks in between. So any holiday exchanges during those times would be wonderful.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The neighbourhood is urban east London and very convenient for getting into central London and the city. It is close to two tube stations and a bus stop just at the end of the road. The house is in a conservation area and is really quite quiet. It's extremely easy to get to all of the wonderful cultural events gong on in London. There are many trendy areas nearby though the area the house is in, is not trendy. There is one of the biggest parks in London at the end of the road, which has playgrounds and a lake and a great cafe too. I don't live in a 'posh' area but it is very certainly interesting and friendly. There are many, may restaurants and places to eat all around!
