Our home

Our lovely family home is situated in a large walled garden in the middle of the village of Great Longstone, near Bakewell. Our warm, sunny house is a great base for a holiday in the English Peak District. Lots of space for you spread out and relax, a large kitchen, and adjacent dining room. The living room opens out via the patio doors onto a terrace and the large level garden, which is great for playing croquet or kicking a ball about. There is a gas barbeque available along with outdoor table and chairs. Our well lit garage holds some indoor fun for everyone with a table tennis table and table football!
We have 2 double bedrooms with ensuite shower rooms, and 2 further spacious single bedrooms (used by our 2 boys) and one smaller room, with family bathroom adjacent.

Who we are

  1. We are a family of four with two fast growing boys (9 and 11 yrs), and we love living here. There is always something to do in the area, particular if you like being outside, so we are usually out mountain or road biking, or running or walking out in the dales around about - usually not needing the car at weekends.
It would be fantastic to exchange with a family who live in an area where we can do similar things, whether elsewhere in the UK or on the continent, or even further afield.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The Village is in the centre of Peak District which is great for hill walking, or wandering around the quaint villages of the Derbyshire Dales. We have two good pubs in the village, one with a focus on fine food, and a village shop for basic supplies - not to mention the village dairy (always open for when you forgot.... the cows are in the fields opposite!).
Nearby is the market town of Bakewell, and the outdoor centres of Hathersage and Castleton, with possibilities for the more adventurous (rock climbing, paragliding, mountain biking).
Ten minutes away is the famous Chatsworth House and Estate, family home of the Duke of Devonshire with its wealth of attractions - visit the house and gardens or take the children around the farmyard or adventure playground.
If you want to go to the theatre or see a film, Sheffield town centre is about 40minutes away by car, or even central Manchester is possible (works well by train) in about 1 hour. There is also a good cinema 30 minutes away in Chesterfield, a large market town with its famous crooked spire. More locally, the spa town of Buxton has a host of tourist attractions like Poole's Cavern or catch a show at the Buxton Opera house, reachable in about 20 minutes.
