Our home

Townend Cottage and Holiday Cottage are quaint oak beamed 18th Century cottages, they provide 3 bedrooms (sleeping 6) all doubles over two ajoining cottages. Overlooking the village in the peaceful, unspoilt Peak District village of Sheldon; an ideal location for a holiday, just 10 mins by car from the bustling market town of Bakewell, the world famous stately home of Chatsworth and the regal spa town of Buxton. The cottages have been newly renovated and is beautifully furnished throughout to a high standard, and kept spotlessly clean.

Situated in a conservation area in the heart of the Peak District National Park, these charming and peaceful cottages are the ideal base for sightseeing, walking, bird watching, fishing, caving, climbing, cycling, gliding or simply getting away from it all at any time of the year.

Who we are

  1. We are Lindsey and Colin, husband and wife with a grown up family, and recently proud grandparents. We love country living, have two working springer spaniels, pigs and chickens, kept behind the cottages (don't worry you wont have to look after them if you come and stay). Although we are used to renting out the holiday cottage next to our main house, this is the first time we have thought out a holiday home exchange. We are keen for our family to holiday together (6 adults and one very well behaved baby). This seemed an ideal way to do it.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

A quiet linear village, with its cottages and farms set alongside a single road. The view down the village from Townend Cottage is wholly delightful, and surprisingly soft for a former lead mining village. Ancient sycamore trees, village greens and the old red telephone box all add further character, (and mercifully free from both yellow and white lines). Small cottage garden with seating area in front cottage, and at the rear. Parking in cottage grounds. We have wonderful pub in the village called the Cock and Pullet, which serves fine beers and ales. Home, reared and home cooked local dishes every lunchtime and evening.
We are surrounded by beautiful countryside, walks and wildlife. The village houses a total of 84 people, in 40 dwellings, and lots of farm animals.
