Our home

Our house is a 100 year old stone built semi detached property in Alloa. We have a comfortable living room, large open plan kitchen diner, 3 bedrooms, bathroom and downstairs toilet. 1 bedroom has a super king size bed, 1 bedroom has bunk beds and a cot, and the 3rd bedroom/playroom has a comfortable sofa bed. There is a further small sofa bed in the kitchen diner. Cooking facilities include an aga in the well equipped kitchen and a gas fired barbeque in the back garden. The house is well equipped for pre-school aged children and babies with cot, high chair, car seats if required and lots of toys. We have a small front garden and a decent sized back garden with climbing frame, vegetable patch, shed and garage. The house is equipped with a laptop with wifi internet access, 2 TVs with DVD players, gas central heating, lots of books and is smoke and pet free. We have 2 cars of which 1 or both can be used if required.

Property features

Who we are

  1. We are a family of 4 (soon to be 5). My name is Ellie and I am a housewife at present. My husband, Chris, is an operations manager and we have two children, Poppy (5) and Olly (2).

We embarked on our first house swap in 2011 in France and it was a very enjoyable experience. In 2012 we are looking to swap closer to home (Devon or Cornwall) as we will have a small baby and do not wish to travel too far. We would like to swap for about 1 week.

Your neighbourhood

Our house is situated in the town of Alloa, which is in Clackmannanshire in Scotland. Alloa is home to the Alloa Tower, built in the 1300's and is the largest and oldest surviving keep in Scotland. Clackmannanshire is home to the Ochils, a beautiful stretch of hills which are ideal for walking. Alloa is well served with public transport with a regular bus service (every 20 minutes) to the nearby city of Stirling. Stirling is home to Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument among many other historical sites. Alloa also has a train station (10 minutes walk from the house) which can take you to both Edinburgh and Glasgow in about an hour. The closest airport is Edinburgh airport which is about 40 minutes drive. Glasgow airport is a little further away. There is a small supermarket 2 minutes walk from the house and a further 3 large supermarkets in Alloa itself. Alloa is perfectly situated for exploring many parts of Scotland including the cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh, and also for exploring further north towards the Highlands.
