“Ang and Ray live in an extraordinary nice and big house, tastefully decorated and located fantastically just 100m from the beach as well as to shopping possibilities. Also it‘s absolutely calm in and around the house. A place where you can find peace. They prepared everything for us very thoughtfully: beds, food for our late evening arrival, breakfast and even flowers. Many suggestions for activities were there, as we visited the beautiful nature, castles and cities like York. We all loved it there a lot. The communication before and during the stay was always immediate, helpful and friendly. We absolutely recommend an exchange with Ang and Ray and couldn‘t have wished more and would have loved to stay longer.”

“We loved Angela and Ray’s home. It’s a a beautiful Victorian house very close to Saltburn’s wonderful seafront. It has everything you need and more. The North Yorkshire coast is so beautiful, we have spent days exploring it! The communication with Angela before and during the exchange was really good. We couldn’t have wished for a better exchange! ”
“The house was very nice and cosy. Nice big kitchen to use for cooking and relaxing with a nice drink. If you look out of the baywindow you can see the sea. A bit oldfashioned little town what makes it adourable. Nice little shops. Walking to the clifs was wonderfull. The pub at the beachside was great and also for the sundaydiner. Be early! We find us very welcome in your house Angela. Must be wonderful in summer too! Thanks Jacqueline Utrecht NL”
“We have spend the time around new years eve in this beautiful house. We felt straight at home and we really love the little town. Our kids loved the beach and the area is great for hiking, surfing, running, eating and smiling with the cows. Our house was left very properly and the contact with the family during, before and after the swap had been warm and accurate. We really recommend a swap!”
“We had a wonderful exchange with Angela and Ray in Saltburn. Their home was quite spacious and we loved taking the short stroll down to the sea. They left a lot of helpful information about things to do in the area; after spending 2 weeks here we barely scratched the surface!”
“We enjoyed a wonderful exchange with Angela and Ray from Saltburn by the Sea during the last weeks of the year 2013. Their home was beautiful and very big, it felt like a castle for just the two us.... It has a well stocked kitchen and almost sea-view, you walk to the beach in a few minutes. Saltburn is a charming little town with some great views at the sea and the cliff. There is a nice walking path on the cliff, don't miss it! Angela and Ray are very friendly and attentive, we had nice contact by email, also during our exchange. When we arrived at home, our house was very clean and good taking care of. We highly recommend an exchange with this family.”
“It was our first exchange experience but, since Angela and Ray are seasoned exchangers, they facilitated our exchange very smoothly. We corresponded for almost a year before our exchange and Angela always answered my questions with great details. They left us a welcome basket of food when we got there. :) The home is well situated in a lovely area of North Yorkshire where you can easily drive to go for walks/hikes or simply spend it in the quaint town of Saltburn. We drove to Whitby one day and rode the North York Moors Railway, making a stop at the 'Harry Potter' station of Goathland. Although 2011 was a very rainy summer in Europe and it was too cold for us to go swimming in the sea, the cool misty walks along the beach every evening made up for it. The townhouse's architecture is quaintly Victorian; it is surprisingly huge inside but still very cosy. There are beds aplenty, way more than the three of us can use. We spent one rainy day inside the house and weren't even bored. Thank you for a great first home exchange experience!”

Where is it?
Your neighbourhood
The area offers stunning views, is ideal for walking & hiking, also water sports. There's a surf shop where you can hire surf boards, wetsuits etc. Children's play area & woodland centre is 5 mins walk. Miniature railway. Lots for families to do. Train station 2 minutes walk. Various local shops, selling quality local produce, farmers market every month. Local pubs serving 'Real Ale'. Leisure centre(inc. swimming pools)tennis courts, golf courses, riding school, cricket pitch & bowling green all within 10 minutes walk. Saltburn is a really friendly town with a great community spirit (www.saltburnbysea.com)
In summer there are open air concerts, events for children on the beach & the woodland centre, and a highly regarded folk festival.
In the winter when the crowds have gone we have eight miles of great beach to ourselves. It's a fantastic place for children but there are great amenities for the grown ups too!
We are on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, close to the historic town of Whitby(setting for Bram Stoker's Dracula)& within very easy access of Durham, Northumberland, York, and the Yorkshire Dales(Bronte country).
