Our home

There are 5 bedrooms and a sleeping attic divided over 2 houses. There is high speed unlimited internet, satellite TV, washing machine, 2 bathrooms with shower, 2 small kitchens etc. On the terrain there is a small water basin 3X2.5 by 1.1 m. deep that the children used as a swimming pool when they were smaller. The water remains clean and does not need to be chlorinated because there is enough in/out flow.
For kids (boys) there are all sorts of toys, videogames, sand, swing, basketball field etc. There are mountain bikes and some camping equipment in case you would like to trek some.
If you like to stay at an eco-friendly place: our house is run on solar power exclusively. This does mean however, that we do not have electrical heating devices such as a magnetron, water cooker, dishwasher, espresso machine since those use too much electricity.

Who we are

  1. We are a Dutch family of six; 4 boys, ages 17, 19, 24 and 25, father (Kees) 53, mother (Mika) 48. We do not smoke, nor do we have any pets (apart from goldie, the pozo fish...)
We have exchanged three times before. The exchanges worked out very well, this year we are hoping to exchange a fourth time.

  2. Mika is a nurse, Kees a jeweler. We like to travel, enjoy mostly outdoor activities such as hiking & trail running, climbing, biking, swimming etc.

  3. This year we plan to travel with three persons; Mika will go to Japan and Kees will try a house exchange with the two youngest sons.
We would like to go to the Benelux area in July/August and hope to arrange another exchange near the Alps.
On the other hand we might be convinced of changing those plans if someone proposes something good….

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our house is located in the southeast mountains of Spain (inside the “Parque Natural de sierras de Cazorla, Pozo, Segura y las Villas“, at the foot of one of the highest mountains: the Mentiras On google earth go to 38.19’43”N, 2.26’57”W.
There is a fair amount of small-scale tourist development in the area. Yeste (pop. 3600) lies at 25 min. drive from the house, all the groceries can be bought there and there are a few restaurants and bars. It also has a tourist office. In summer the population triplicates and becomes really crowded during the fiestas of Yeste in August. See amongst others www.turismoruralyeste.es , www.yesteturismo.com, https://mentirasvertical.com/
Arguellite at about 3.5 km. has a small shop that sells some of the basics and has a restaurant. Both the rio Tus and the Rio Segura are about 10 km. away, there are a some campings/restaurants and a spa along the riverbeds. If you like to be entertained with busy shopping streets, big malls, etc. you will be disappointed. On the other hand, if you like silence and enjoy biking, trail running, trekking, swimming, canoeing, rock climbing etc. you’ll like it a lot.
The geographical position mostly invokes images of the Mediterranean area, but because of the mountains it is much more like the Pyrenees on the Spanish side. The house lies at an altitude of 1130 m. so even in mid summer it won’t get as hot as elsewhere; maximum temperatures of 29-35 C minimum of 13-18 C. Air is clear and fresh, even in midsummer, which cannot be said of most of southern Spain. During summer, sun is virtually guaranteed.
The photos are all made within a radius of 2.5 km of the house with exception of the ones depicting the Rio Segura (8 km) and the lake Fuensanta (20 km)
Granada, Murcia, Cordoba, Alicante are all a day trip away. The Mediterranean is a long day trip (about 3 hrs) away (Mar Menor, Santa Pola) but if you want to swim, the Rio Segura at 15 minutes offers better swimming.
