Our home

We offer a deluxe centrally-heated villa with spacious living-dining area with stone arches, beamed ceilings and built-in log-burning stove, separate fully-equipped kitchen and utility area, three bedrooms, two bathrooms (one ensuite), and a large covered south-facing outside terrace ideal for al fresco dining on sunny days even in winter months. Our villa is spacious and beautifully furnished in colonial style with chests and cupboards, Persian carpets, woven hangings, paintings, ceramic vases and handicrafts collected on travels in Africa and the Far East. Facilities include a satellite TV with a choice of UK channels, DVD player, stereo system and broadband internet with wi-fi. The villa is set in lavish grounds enclosed by fully-grown hedges with pool and large areas of immaculately-kept lawn. The garden is well-developed with mature palm trees, mimosa, fruit and fir trees, and filled out with oleander and hibiscus bushes and attractive rock-edged corners with flowers and plants. The 10m x 4m pool has large natural stone surrounds with loungers and garden furniture and an attractive rock garden with a waterfall-feature at one end. There is also a BBQ area with a fixed table and seating and traditional Moorish-style mosaic tiling. There is driveway parking.

Who we are

  1. We are Heidi and Tony, a retired couple in our sixties. Heidi is German, an English and German language teacher and qualified aromatherapist. Tony is English, formerly a lecturer in English Language and Business Communications. We met in London in 1971 where Tony was teaching English and Heidi was an au pair who happened to enrol in one of his classes! We ended up hitch-hiking to Greece where we settled and began life together teaching on Crete. We have two children, a son born in Greece and now a Major in the British army and a daughter born in Tunisia and now a radio and TV correspondent with the BBC. We have three young grandchildren. Most of our professional life has been spent overseas. Apart from working in France, Germany and Greece in Europe, we have also lived and worked in North Africa and the Middle- and Far-East, where apart from teaching Heidi also ran a handicraft business. We retired to Spain seven years ago. We look to using the home-exchange experience to indulge our love of travel and to explore new countries and cultures, as well as to help our exchange partners become acquainted with the beauties of Spain and life on the Costa Blanca. We would also hope to have extended email contact with our eventual exchange partners to learn more about them and where they are coming from, and to tell them more about us and our interests, before the exchange happens. We have exchanged twice before, to California and to Australia, and loved both. We take great pride in our home and look after it, as we would yours.

Your neighbourhood

The villa is very private, located in a cul-de-sac in a quiet, green locality full of cypress, palm and pine trees in one of the most prestigious areas of Javea, a town an hour's drive away from Alicante to the south and Valencia to the north, in the middle of one of the most beautiful stretches of the Costa Blanca coast. Five minutes' walk from the villa is a supermarket, pharmacy and restaurants, and twenty minutes' walk away is the shoreline with its cliffs and rocky coves, and also the town beach with a generous selection of cafes, bars, restaurants and shops. A ten-minute drive from the villa are the three main areas of Javea, lively all year round: the old Spanish village with its picturesque narrow streets and its fourteenth-century church, the port with its waterside restaurants and fresh-fish market and its mix of fishing vessels and luxury yachts in the neighbouring marina, and the beach area with its cospomolitan mix of local residents and visitors. Shopping in Javea is extensive and ranges from open-air markets to sophisticated designer shops. There are excellent supermarkets, fully-stocked with fresh produce and international goods, two minutes' drive from the house. The Javea area boasts all kinds of outdoor activities, and for walkers there is a rich choice of dramatic pine-clad pebble-coved coastline and inland mountain areas to explore. Climate-wise, there are more than 320 days of sunshine a year. Sheltered by the Montgo mountain, Javea's winters are mild.
