Our home

My husband is the architect of our home and we have invested the last eight years in creating a modern, functional, family home. It is a three storey home with room for everyone. We have a big playroom and entertainment centre in the semi-basement full of light and with direct access to the garden. The garage is full of bikes, ski gear, pool gear, diving gear, rollerblades etc and that leaves upstairs as a clutter free zone. It is open plan living that looks out onto the pool and garden. Parents have a separate chillout zone on the top floor with ensuite and great sky views over the palm trees. There are sea views too but the sky views are better. The modern open kitchen is the heart and soul of the house...great for lovers of food and cooking. The house is on a 800m2 block and we have a cleaner and gardener to help us maintain it. The housekeeper and gardener would be a part of the exchange. I am a teacher at a private international primary and secondary school and would also be open to a 12 month job exchange.

Who we are

  1. I am Australian and my husband is Spanish. I have lived in Spain for nearly 20 years. We have two children aged 11 and 15. They are used to being tidy and respectful becase that is how we live. We are an active family who love to be out and about. We are looking for an exchange in August 2016. Germany, Sweden, Holand... All the exchanges we have done have been incredibly successful experiences for all parties. It is a wonderful way to travel and experience a home away with home.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

We are 5 minutes walk from the beach and 5 minutes by car to Puerto Banus and the old centre of Marbella. Marbella is a holiday destination and it is very glamorous with designer shops and excellent dining. We are situated in the middle of some excellent day trips and/or overnight stays depending on how much of Spain you want to see while you are here. 2.5 hours East is Granada which is a spectacular cultural destination. 2.5 hours west is Seville. Tarifa is our favourite wild and sandy beach which is only 40 minutes away. It is an amazing geographical location, two seas, two continents almost merge and it is the windsurfing/ kite surfing capital of Europe. A ferry ride away from Tarifa is Morocco. You can travel over on the ferry if you want to be adventurous but I would recommend the 3 day tour that includes visits to the markets and small guided tours through the maze like villages to explore the hidden corners. Another stunning destination is the white washed village of Ronda, only 45 minutes away, behind Marbella in the mountains. The mountain range also offers all sorts of outdoor activity including walks and riding through almond and olive groves. Madrid is now only 3 hours away on the new high speed train. Cordoba is another cultural destination worth investigating. We would leave you with all the travel info and tips you need for living our area like a local. The lonely planet Spain is an excellent reference to all the aditional travel opportunities
