Our home

We are detached and set on the mountainside. Our home is quite a unique property, designed by us and built in 2003 to traditional Spanish style but with all mod cons, featuring 7m high vaulted ceilings which lead off to 2 large double bedrooms on the first floor, one each side of a wooden mezzanine. The first floor master bedroom has an en-suite and access to a semicircle terrace overlooking the tree tops, pool, outdoor casita and kitchen/bar and the valley below, beautiful views. A further double bedroom is situated downstairs with an en-suite/bathroom. A stable door from this bedroom leads to a paved patio area, which has the sun from mid morning to late evening and leads to the saltwater oval pool and terrace and casita/bar, a beautiful area for relaxing during the day and star gazing by night!

The property is approx 250 sq m and is open plan and laid with a slate floor for winter warmth, designed in 3 sections with feature arches to separate the living areas. We have a wood-burning stove in the centre of the house. The kitchen is large and has a double Britannia range styled electric double oven for all your cooking needs, there is a large 2.6m central island housing sink and dishwasher giving you plenty of room for prep and entertaining with 3 Bar stools for breakfast and snacks.

The kitchen opens onto a large patio/terrace with views down the valley with dining table and 6 chairs.

Who we are

  1. We are a professional family; we are Karen, a business owner and partner Paul, we are well travelled with two girls 8 - 11 years old. Wishing to show my growing girls other countries and cultures and to be able to travel independently, hopefully with the use of a car at the exchange destination?

My girls are Spanish born and attend the local vilage school, they are extremely well behaved and respectful. I originate from UK and have had the pleasure of living here for 15 years and love it. We are open to most areas, our best times to travel are late summer 2017, Xmas 2017 1-2 weeks and then Summer 2018. We are house proud and tidy and we will treat your home with care and look after it as if it where our own. Please get in touch if you are interested in coming to Spain to stay in our home.

    Thank you

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

We have the best views of the valley being in an elevated position to watch all the comings and goings of the villagers. The community is traditionally Spanish and their days are filled with tending their huertos (veggie patches) which are amazing. The local goat herder passes most days to take the animals up the mountains to graze on the local vegetation and herbs, the tinkle of bells will let you know they are en-route. The flip side of this is that we can buy local goat and lamb from the abattoir direct or local butchers in the village which is absolutely delicious along with the locally made chorizos and orcillas which are delicious. The village is a 5 minute drive and most things are there for your daily needs, bakers, supermarkets, banks a plethora of excellent Tapas bars and a lovely Bodega/Restaurant which is renowned for it’s steaks and traditional Andaluz cuisine, not to mention the finest wines from Spain. Lubrin hosts many fiestas throughout the year the most famous being the fiesta del Pan celebrating the Saint/San Sebastian Jan 22nd, who is the patron saint of the village. Thousands of people flock from all of Spain to join in the throwing of Roscas (small bread rolls) from the 3 & 4 storey houses to the people crammed into the narrow streets below, the local band leads the way and the ladies of the village carry a huge statue of the saint through the streets followed by the throngs of people. The fiesta is finished off by much celebrations, food and dancing of course! There is always a fiesta within driving distance to visit and enjoy here in Spain.
We are a 30 min drive to the coast which has miles of sandy beaches and the busy fishing port of Garrucha is where you can buy your favourite seafood direct from the fishermen, or alternatively just enjoy one of the local restaurants. Continue along the coastline to the Cabo de Gata Natural Park a fabulous area of natural beauty hugging the craggy coastline, visit Monsul beach just pne of the many. The pink flamingos are found in Cabo de Gata they are there all year round.
Our home is a perfect base for those who want to experience the true Spain and use our home as a stepping-stone to visit the surrounding areas such as Granada (2 hours) with the Alhambra Palace and ski slopes of the Sierra Nevadas they can be found 1-2 hours away or just enjoy the tobogans. Cordoba, Sevilla, Jaen, Gibraltar approx 4 hours. You can also take the ferry for a few days away to visit Morocco to experience an altogether different culture.
Almeria airport offers flights to various European countries and plenty of internal flights also to other Spanish cities.
Granada/Alicante/Murcia Airport can all be reached in 2 hours by car.
