Our home

Our home is a comfortable large family country house that we have recently renovated. It is set in lovely sub tropical gardens and has plenty of room for our children to explore and play safely.

Inside we have a spacious kitchen/diner, 2 lounges, a children's play/television room, 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. But being southern Spain, we spend most of our time outside. We are lucky to have our own swimming pool, where the children spend most of their time between May and October. We have a lovely bbq area and room for 8-10 people to sit around and eat alfresco. We also have a huerta (vegetable plot), fruit trees (orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit and pomegranate) and some chickens. You are, of course, welcome to help yourself to any veg, fruit or eggs that are ready to eat during your stay! We also have a large trampoline.

Our house is all on the ground floor. The main bedroom has a en-suite bathroom, while the second toilet has a shower.

If you'd like to spend time inside, we have a 42 inch plasma TV with free view and a Mac computer in the office with broadband. We have a well equipped kitchen (microwave, oven, gas hob, dish washer etc) and, as we are real foodies, everything you could want in terms of cooking utensils and ingredients.

Who we are

  1. We are an English family that have lived in this part of Spain on and off for nearly 6 years. I am freelancer in my 40s and my husband Matt is a carpenter, who shares a large workshop with 5 other local Spanish carpenters. Matt plays bass in a local rock band, and I do ceramics (not very well). We have 3 children aged (Gabriel 4, Ben 6 and Zac 8 who all attend the local village school. We are addicted house swapping and love the opportunity to see other places and try out other people lives.

We would also be happy to exchange our car - a Volvo V70 with 7 seats.

We prefer to stay in Europe for our holidays. We are currently looking for Summer 2010 and are open to offers, so supprise us! We are also interested in non-simultanious exchanges - our house will be free this summer and we would like to visit a city maybe Easter 2011. We are also interested in long weekends in Spain.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

We live on a country lane backing with views of the surrounding orange groves, with the while Andalusian village of San Pablo de Buciete in the distance. We are around a 25 minute walk to the village a 10 minute drive from the stunning white villages of Jimena de la Frontera and Gaucin, with their romantic Moorish castles and quaint cobbled streets. San Pablo is only 200 years old (a new village by local standards) and has very few English visitors or residents compared to most of the surrounding areas. The community is a traditional, farming based who are close knit and very friendly. There are numerous bars and restaurants nearby where you can sample the local cuisine.

Our nearest beach is about 30 minutes drive away (Costa del Sol), but we also frequently go to the Atlantic coast (about 1 hours drive).

There are numerous white villages, all nestled in the mountains, to visit. We live close to the Alcornacales National Park (the largest in Europe) where you can walk/hike or ride horses. There is an astonishing amount of wildlife, especially birds as we live on the north Africa migration route.

We are only an hour from Ronda (I recommend the scenic train journey), 40 minutes from Gibraltar, half an hour from Algecirus and 1.5 hours from the beautiful port town of Cadiz. If you are feeling more adventurous Granada is a 4 hour train journey away and Morrocco is an easy day trip from Tarifa.
