Our home

Our family home is a renovated fishermen’s cottage that is spacious, extremely comfortable and only a minute’s walk from Barceloneta beach. During recent extensions we added three compact new floors (we have lots of stairs!) including a new kitchen, two bedrooms and bathrooms and a leafy rooftop terrace with outdoor furniture, barbecue and shower. The original levels of the house retain their traditional feel with terracotta tiles and timber beams, arches and wooden shutters. The newer rooms are very light and sunny and have polished cement floors and huge glass sliding doors, which open onto a large balcony from the kitchen. Our kitchen is large with a big double table with space for all the family and as we love cooking , we have good facilities. We have air conditioning and heating, lots of books and games for all ages, plus a large television, fast internet and a computer for you to use. Our small, quiet street is set between the beach and yachting harbour. We have great shops less than a minute away for fruit and veges, meat and supermarket, as well as seafood restaurants, pizzerias etc and the local food market is just minutes walk away. WE have just converted our lovely cool cellar into a retreat for the kids (or adults) with a big tv, xbox, and other games. It is perfect for a summer siesta.

“We had a wonderful time in Barcelona. We enjoyed the location, just in the middle of everything: Close to the beach, close to the harbour and close to the old town. Our kids enjoyed the big selection of toys and having their own floor in the house. It was fun to try and live in 6 floors including the charming roof terrace. The family have been very helpful both with information and also meeting up for exchange of keys. This is definitely the best place to stay in Barcelona. Who we are

We are a family of five. Fergus is a photographer and director and I am a food, wine and travel writer. We have three boys, aged 5, 8 and 10who love to travel. We are Australian and have lived in Barcelona for ten years. We love to visit new places, particularly coastal and rural áreas where we can walk in the countryside. We really enjoy exchanging houses as it gives such a great feel for exploring a new place. We are experienced exchangers and will take excellent care of your home.

Barceloneta’s privileged central location offers the chance to have a classic beach holiday while enjoying the best of Barcelona’s cultural offerings. Only ten minutes from the Gothic Quarter or Las Ramblas, this traditional fishing quarter retains a lively village feel and is set on one of the city’s longest and prettiest beaches. It has seafront cafes, charming, narrow streets and spacious plazas. The famous seafood restaurants open their outdoor patios on summer evenings and the neighbourhood food market has great local produce.

Excellent public transport (both bus and metro) or an easy walk will take you to the Gothic Quarter, with its museums, historic buildings and restaurants, the city centre, and Las Ramblas, all within 10 minutes. The famous art nouveau architecture and Gaudi buildings, such as the Sagrada Familia, in the wide boulevards of the Eixample district are also within easy reach.

A ten-minute walk takes you to the Barcelona Aquarium, the City Zoo, set in the beautiful Ciutadella Park, or the stylish Borne area, home to the Picasso Museum and the city’s hippest boutiques and wine bars. Even closer is the cable car that travels across the waterfront and above the city to Montjuic Park, home to the Miro Foundation, a series of parks and sculpture gardens, and the National Art Museum of Catalonia.
