Our home

Our new second home on 2 floors is very light and spacious with a view directly over the nature reserve of Doñana (famous for its birds) and 20 mins walk (max) from the safe, sandy beach. There is a large lounge, separate kitchen with counter for eating and 2 bathrooms, both with bath and shower. The 3 bedrooms,- good quality, comfortable mattresses- are independent, the one downstairs being ensuite. There is a large south facing sun-terrace and a west facing balcony upstairs and a covered porch outside the front door. There is also a patio area at the back of the house. Although there are houses either side it is not overlooked and the garden affords privacy. We are working hard on our 300 metre plot and have fruit trees and shrubs growing well. In keeping with a "green" policy, paradoxically we have no grass as this takes too much water!! Room for off street parking. Considerate smokers allowed though we don't smoke. No internet in the house but available in a nearby cafe.

Who we are

  1. We are a retired couple- I am English and Juan is Spanish- he was a Biology teacher and I taught English in Seville! We have 2 grown up daughters, one in Madrid and the other in Holland . We bought our house at the beach to be a stone's throw from Seville but in the peace and quiet and fresh sea air- not forgetting the difference in temperature in the summer months. We have always spent most of the summer in England with my family . We did several house exchanges around 1990 and again after I retired and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We would also be willing to host you in our home in Seville for a short period. We would like to get to know the rest of Spain, both inland and coast, and anywhere in Europe, while we are still able to travel!!! Of course we would take great care of your home and garden. Any dates except August are possible- Weather hardly ever falls below freezing and maximum in summer is around 35º, with night temps under 20º. Hoping to hear from you with suggestions.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Matalascañas is a small, mainly Spanish holiday resort on the Costa de la Luz, very quiet outside the peak months July and Aug. It is 20 kms from El Rocío, (important shrine) Seville is 100kms, the Algarve 60kms,(Faro and Seville nearest airports) It is a ribbon development stretching 5kms alongside the beach, with services, a medical centre, school, church, supermarkets, horse-riding facilities, a golf course and water sports available in the season. There is a flat promenade alongside the 5kms of beach and a walkway and cycle track parallel to the main road separating the village from the Coto Doñana. There are endless possibilities for bird-watching, walking in the Coto and even along the beach for 20 kms to Sanlucar at the mouth of the river Guadalquivir. There are restaurants, hotels and bars which are open all year. Our house is in the quietest area of Matalascañas, a mere 10 min walk from the largest supermarket and service section in an area as yet not built up. Access is very easy as it is just off the main road (also quiet as it only leads to the hotel and houses at the end of the development) It is an ideal place to unwind, with day trips possible to nearby La Rábida (monastery from which Columbus sailed to America) Moguer, home of poet Juan Ramón Jiménez, the Algarve, and of course, Seville. Advisable to have your own car though there is public transport. Come and enjoy!Spanish useful
