Our home

I have built my home as a small intimate retreat house (for spiritual and creative retreats) so it has a beautiful sanctuary, (converted from the mules stable) a studio, calm open spaces, three bedrooms (two with the traditional beamed ceilings with bamboo) two sitting rooms, two bathrooms one with jacuzzi, a roof terrace for star gazing and relaxing. The house is full of light, and is simply furnished with furniture from around the world. There are wonderful views from every window, and two mules (used to be six) pass the front door every day on their way to the fields. The three story house is at the end of a tiny white washed village (68 inhabitants) nestled in the Contraveisa mountains which face the Sierra Nevada Mountain range. The house is beautifully cool in the hot summers and cozy in the winter with the two woodstoves. I now have a satelite phone but Internet is not available, sorry. The nearest cyber cafe is a half hour drive away. There are magical and awesome walks right from the front door. The house is not suitable for young children due to the steep open plan staircase. Children over 14 welcome.

Who we are

  1. I am an artist interetsed in spirituality. I am sixty two, but feel more like 40, or 35, truth be told ! I love to travel, explore and paint. I would like to correspond by email a little with whoever is interested in a house swop, and the countries I am most interested in are Canada, British Columbia, and Chile, anywhere in Chile. Previously I created and ran a private art school in Scoltand where my grown up sons still live. Ten years ago I moved to Spain and became nomadic for six years exploring and painting in many countries including Alaska. I am particualy intereted in finding other artists homes so that I can paint and write while living in other countries. I am interested in a swop of about a month. My needs are very simple and I would look after your property with loving care.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

My house is in a remote mountain village half an hour from the nearest town which is Orgiva. Granada is an hour and ten mintutes by car. The village is still completely untouched by tourism and I am still the only foreigner though a friendly Irish couple have recently built a house nearby, five mintues away by car . The area is called Las Alpujarras and has been discribed as where Europe meets North Africa but it is neither of these, it is itself, magical and mystical. The sea is an hour away, nearest beach is at Motril. Almonds and olives cover the foothills, January is fabulous with almond blossom everywhere, spring time fabulous with acres of scarlet poppies, summer very hot, autumn colours stunning, and winters warmish, snow only on the high peaks. A car is essential here, car hire reasonaly priced.
