Our home

Butterfly Glen is a newly constructed (August 2006)garden apartment situated below our main house. It is situated in a large sub tropical very private garden which is maintained by a full time gardener. The apartment is completely self contained and has it's own security system, entrance gate and driveway leading to secure parking for two to three vehicles. The apartment is furnished in modern minimalist style to the highest standard. The kitchen has a ceramic hob, oven, microwave, fridge freezer and other top quality appliances. Maid service twice weekly is provided as is laundry. The apartment is not our main home and is also available for rent so non simultaneous exchanges are quite possible.
The Bedroom is air conditioned and the bedroom and living room have remotely controlled ceiling fans.
The apartment has a full length wide patio opening from the living room, kitchen and bedroom.
A TV is provided as well as DSTV(Digital Satellite TV) with a PVR (Personal Video Recorder) to provide flexibility of viewing. WiFi Internet access is possible.
The garden has many bird visitors and the Wolly Necked Stork is frequently seen gliding over. Butterfly Glen was so named because of the butterflies that are seen in the garden all the year round.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Southbroom is a quiet village surrounding one of the best holiday golf courses in South Africa with stunning coastal views. The village is on the Lower South Coast of KwaZulu Natal, which is also known as the Hibiscus Coast and the Golf Coast because of the numerous golf courses within a 30 minute drive of Southbroom. The village has a superb tidal pool for safe family bathing. The beaches are quiet, sandy and stunning with four Blue Flag Beaches within a short distance. The closest being just a 15 minute walk away.
The climate is sub tropical with an average yearly temperature of 23.5 Deg C. It is often described as a 12 month summer. Average seasonal daytime temperatures range from 19C to 30C. Nightime temperatures rarely drop below 14C. February is the month of highest humidity but is usually not unpleasant.
There are several very good restaurants within the village and the adjacent towns of Ramsgate and Margate. Two Shopping Malls in Shelly Beach are within a 15 minute drive whilst a supermarket, post office and other shops are situated in the village.
There are many attractions in the area including a game farm with Zebra, Giraffe and other grazing animals. Many game farms with the big five are found further north in KwaZulu Natal.
The Sardine run is an annual natural event occuring in late June and July when millions of Sardines migrate up the South Coast followed by thousands of Dolphins and Sea Birds. A sight not to be missed.
