Our home

Our home, situated at the end of a cul-de-sac in a tranquil residential area of Mossel Bay (voted South Africa's 2017 town of the year) in close proximity of the town centre, shopping malls, supermarkets, good restaurants, game farms/lodges, white sandy beaches and the Garden Route Casino, is comfortable, clean and spacious and a pleasure to live in.

It is 40 km (30 minutes) from the George Airport.

The home has 3 double bedrooms and an open plan living area with fully equipped kitchen. The main bedroom and living area/kitchen have a spectacular sea view.

The living area as well as the main bedroom has a large glass sliding door leading to the balcony with a 180 degrees view of the sea and mountains. The roofed balcony has a built-in barbeque. Adjoining the balcony is the terrace with swimming pool from which the ocean can be viewed. The back yard is privately walled with a very beautiful garden.

There are 2 garages with remote controlled doors as well as off-street parking.

The home is equipped with an alarm system connected to 24/7 armed response.

Who we are

  1. We are Hannes & Johlene, both senior citizens (early 60's). Johlene is a retired professional nurse (specialised in general nursing, midwifery, psychiatric, pathology, occupational health & safety, client services). I occupied senior managerial positions in local government and now semi-retired (currently a professional consultant mainly for municipalities). We are frequent travellers; however, only joined Home for Exchange early 2017.

We are a very close family and have 2 daughters who are both married and 4 grand children (all daughters).

We love to entertain friends and family and make special efforts to let home-for-exchangers (simultaneous or non-simultaneous) feel welcome and relaxed at our home.

We are very responsible and will take care of your home as if our own.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Mossel Bay is a harbour town with about 130,000 people on the Southern Cape (or Garden Route) of South Africa. It is an important tourism and farming region of the Western Cape Province. Mossel Bay lies 400 km east of the country's seat of parliament, Cape Town (which is also the capital city of the Western Cape Province) and 400 km west of Port Elizabeth, the largest city in the Eastern Cape Province. The older parts of the town occupy the north-facing side of the Cape St Blaize Peninsula, whilst the newer suburbs straddle the Peninsula and have spread eastwards along the sandy shore of the Bay.
The town's economy relied heavily on farming, fishing and its commercial harbour until the 1969 discovery of natural offshore gas fields led to the development of the gas-to-liquids refinery operated by PetroSA. Tourism is another important driver of Mossel Bay's economy.
Mossel Bay’s human history can, as local archaeological deposits have revealed, be traced back more than 164,000 years.
The modern history of Mossel Bay began on 3 February 1488, when the Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias landed with his crew at a point close to the site of the modern-day Dias Museum Complex.
Mossel Bay’s climate is mild throughout the year as the town is situated in the area where the winter rainfall and all-year rainfall regions of the Western Cape Province meet. Its weather is influenced by the Agulhas current of the warm Indian Ocean and by the presence of the Outeniqua Mountains. Mossel Bay receives 80% of its rainfall at night.
