Our home

Our house is a spacious open-plan family home - with a big garden, swings, hammock, barbecue-area and herb garden in backyard. The little village, Melkbosstrand is 30 km from Cape Town with it's winelands, restaurants, clubs, beaches, waterfront and many shopping-malls - if that is what you want. From our beach you have a perfect view of Tablemountain (see picture below). If shopping is not for you, stay at home and enjoy the peace, tranquility and friendliness of our little village with its beautifull beach, friendly family-life and lovely view of table mountain. There are 6 restaurants in our village, 2 playparks for children, one medium size shopping mall, a garage, two local doctors and a pharmacy. If a family vacation with fishing, swimming, surfing and picnics on the beach is what you are looking for, our home is for you. Just remember to pack the suntan-lotion.

Property features

Who we are

  1. My name is Corlia - I am the mom. I am a freelance journalist who homeschools our two sons Thomas (14) and Samuel (8). My husband, Charl, is a accountant - he runs a small practice in Melkbosstrand. We have a labrador named Yukie (the name of a local tree) and a jack russel (skapie) meaning little lamb in Afrikaans. We speak Afrikaans and English I love movies, reading, mosaic, gardening, cooking and people. Charl loves reading, jogging, barbecue, rugby and cricket. The boys are growing into strappy surfers (mum also goes into the water with them but thomas does the teaching) - the both love art, reading and just being boys and doing boy-things. This is our first home-swop and we are slightly nervous - would prefer to get to first know the family coming to stay in our house. We are doing this as it is a great way to see other parts of the world and we would love to expose the boys to other countries and cultures. We would love to spend time in xai xai, mosambique in either March/April or May next year - are open to discussion.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Driving from Cape Town International airport you will pass many suburbs of Cape Town - little towns in itself - each with it's own character and habits. Melbosstrand lies towards the Westcoast - well known for its flowers, cold water, whales, fish and food. Melkbosstrand is 30 km drive from Cape Towns city centre. The beauty of living here is that one has te best of both worlds - everything the city of Cape Town can offer is 20 minutes drive away, but after work one comes home to the peace and quite of a little seaside village that is growing in popularity for this exact reason. In Summer (november to march) we have hot sunny weather -this is the time the surfers come out, multi coloured veldflowers bloom and the fishing is great. In winter it is rain and whale time - whale families come rest in our bay and if you are realy lucky you might see one or two of these giant mom's give birth. If you are visiting in summer pack the sunscreen - if in winter the binoculars and wet suit.
