Our home

Our three bedroom apartment in a beautifully kept, four-unit Art Deco block is sunny and spacious and has 360 degree views of Table Mountain, Signal Hill, Devil's Peak and the harbour, all the way to Robben Island. The newly renovated open-plan kitchen and living area connects to a balcony with views over the city and harbour, while the front balcony faces Table Mountain directly. The kitchen/living area is air-conditioned. There are three bedrooms, each with a double bed, and the main bedroom's view is to Table Mountain. Our flat is full of books. We have a smart television, but we have no cable as we use it only to watch movies. Wooden floors and window frames, art, books and carefully chosen furniture make this a warm, welcoming and friendly space.

Property features

Who we are

  1. We are a blended family. Andries is an architect and Karin is a writer, and we have three teenagers between us who spend half their time in our home and the other half with their other parent. Andries's daughter lives in Tel Aviv and we are keen to visit her there. The five of us share a deep interest in books, art and music and spend most of our indoor times engaged in those activities, having friends over for supper, watching movies or playing board games. We are keen hikers and spend most weekends on Table Mountain or further afield for long walks. Because our home is so central to all the best that Cape Town has to offer, we also spend a lot of time in parks, at the botanical gardens and on the beaches in summer. We will happily share our tips for the best places for short and long walks and the best places to swim in some of the most beautiful spots imaginable.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Vredehoek is a central Cape Town suburb, nestled in the bowl formed by the iconic Table Mountain range and has views up to the mountain and the Atlantic Ocean. The name means "peaceful corner". It is made up of private houses as well as Art Deco apartment blocks. Our flat is five minutes' walk to the Gardens shopping centre, where we buy our groceries, and where there is a bus station that connects us to the rest of the city and to the airport, as well as a taxi rank.

The historic Company Gardens is about eight minutes' walk from our flat and from there one can walk all the way into the city. The Company Gardens are also home to national art gallery, the natural history museum and a superb restaurant that serves food made from local produce grown in the gardens.

Vredehoek has many good restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance and is well connected to the rest of the city by road and public transport. We are surrounded by parks and easy access to the mountainside for hikes on Table Mountain, which is a World Heritage Site.

Uber car service is very cheap and will get you anywhere in the city.
