Who we are

  1. My wife Julie and I, Linn, are retired school teachers. We taught in English-speaking schools in Puerto Rico for over 30 years. We currently split our time between Puerto Rico and Idaho. We may be in Puerto Rico during your stay; if so, we would be in the downstairs apartment and happy to provide information and assistance during your visit to the island.

Your neighbourhood

Our home is in a gated community featuring one uniform architectural style. Walking one hundred yards up our street brings you to a clear view of the Caribbean with views of islands all the way to the Virgin Islands. This view overlooks Puerto del Rey Marina, the largest in the Caribbean, which is a two-minute drive or ten-minute walk from our home. Scuba and snorkeling excursions, day sails, and night excursions to the bioluminescent bay on Vieques Island are all available from the marina. An Avis car rental agency is approximately one mile away. From Fajardo (4 miles)you can take inexpensive ferry excursions to the offshore islands and beautiful beaches of Vieques and Culebra. Thirty minutes gets you to the only tropical rain forest in the U.S. National Forest system, with interpretive centers and wonderful walks of every difficulty (Bring your rain poncho). The capital city of San Juan is about one hour away by automobile and includes a restored city dating to the arrival of Juan Ponce de Leon. A rural hot springs resort is less than 2 hours away. Another 30 minutes gets you to a wonderful art museum in the city of Ponce. There is a multitude of historical, scientific, and cultural sites to visit, all inexpensive.

While the first language of Puerto Rico is Spanish, probably 80% of Puertoricans speak some level of English, many of them totally fluent English. As the island is A U.S. Commonwealth, travel documents, post offices, and many retail outlets are the same as in the U.S.

Puerto Rico is only 30 by 100 miles, but it would take years to enjoy it all.
