Our home

The house is situated in the Beskid mountains in southern Poland in a little town Porabka (about 4000 inhabitants). We have recently built it to have a nice place to go for weekends. It is not big but very cosy with 3 rooms and each room having a balcony/terrace overlooking the mountains and two of them a lake, placed in a garden of 700 square metres. The kitchen is fully equipped, in two sleeping rooms on the first floor there are 5 places to sleep- one double bed and three single beds. On the ground floor you can rest inside on the sofas at the fireplace or sit on a terrace using a stylish terrace furniture set and a sun umbrella. Outside you’ll find a natural garden and a peaceful surrounding. Sometimes –usually early morning- we come across nice unexpected guests outside – deers come very close the house mainly to eat apples lying on the ground. We love to spend time there and so we do it whenever it’s possible. We live 50 km away from it and it is a second home for us, therefore we can make it available actually the whole year for our exchange guests who would like to swap with us. This way not only a simultaneous exchange but also a second home option is welcome from our side.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The surrounding is a green, peaceful and picturesque area with mountains, woods and lakes, which enables you activities like Nordic walking, skiing, canoing. You can rent a boat or a water bike and explore the lakes as you wish. A nearby located Zar Mountain offers many sports activities - you can for example do or watch paragliding, learn gliding in a very good gliding school, use a luge path, children's playground or do skiing. There are a few small grocery shops not far from the house and some others in the town centre. For those who like shopping, there is a big shopping mall in Bielsko –Biala city 17 km away from our town offering a wide variety of well known international brands. Our house has a very convenient location in terms of Polish most valuable tourist attractions – in a vicinity of 4 monuments featuring on a UNESCO world cultural heritage list, meaning the royal city of Krakow/Cracow (just 75 km away from our house) with the royal castle Wawel being a seat of Polish monarchs over the centuries and the old town Krakow. Another very worldwide known place to visit is the German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp Auschwitz-Birkenau located in Oswiecim (only 30 km away from our house) . Then there are Royal Salt Mines Wieliczka and Bochnia (75 km distant) founded in the 13th century and offering the visitors magnificent salt chambers and chapels to see underground. The fourth UNESCO cultural heritage site is recognized as a unique mannerist architectural and landscape complex in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska (about 40 km away) – founded about 1602 is as a composition of a baroque architecture and beauty of a natural environment. It is a Calvary, a Sanctuary visited by millions of pilgrims and visitors every year and was a place especially beloved by the pope John Paul II. All these sites annually attract millions of people from all over the world.
Being in our house you also have an opportunity to see Wadowice - the family town of Pope John Paul II where he was born and grew up. His family house is made available for the tourists to visit it. And this is also just a short drive from our house – 25 km.
For children (and adults too)I reccommend a fantastic entertainment park in Inwald (just 25 minutes drive) spreading on a large area and offering numerous leisure options to play and also to learn by having fun. Parents can rest in beautifully designed gardens. My son really loves this place.
Our location is quite close to some European capitals and here you are some approximate distances:

Vienna (Austria) – 380 km
Budapest (Hungary) – 430 km
Berlin (Gemany) – 580 km
