Our home

A family home, two floors. Four bedrooms, kitchen, 2 livingrooms, 2 bathrooms, a study. Large porch on first floor with stunning view over the Kvaløya mountains. Midnight sun from 20th of May til 20th of July. All modern amenities available (washing machine, dish washer, microwave, bubble-bathtub and showerstall, high speed internet connection, TV, DVD, Cable TV, El-piano). The first floor is accessible for wheelchair users.

We have a cat - and would be very grateful if visitors would kindly agree to feed the cat while they visit us. He is a quite independent creature, does not require much attention, and can be left alone for 2-3 days if enough food is left outdoors for him. Our house would not be suitable for anyone with a cat allergy.

We also own a weekend house about 1.5 hours drive from Tromsø together with another family. It is placed by the fjord with a spectacular view. It is a charming old farm house with a soul. All modern amenities. Use of the weekend house is optional, provided our co-owners are not planning to use it in the period in question. See the last three pictures.

Who we are

  1. We are a family of five. Two adults: Gro is a medical doctor, Tom is a civil engineer. We have two teen-age daughters: Miriam (18), Anja (16) and our youngest who will always be our baby: 8 year old Dina. Tom uses a wheelchair, but can climb a flight of stairs if necessary.

We adore travelling and are eager to discover new territory. Since we get enough of the cold arctic magic while we live here - we want to go somewhere warm! We enjoy seeing family and friends during hollidays, as we use vactions to catch up. We would like to inviting friends for a visit while we are in your home. If this is not an option for you - you should not consider an exchange with us. We are of course open to your inviting someone with you to our arctic home if you wish to do so.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Tromsø is the worlds smallest metropolitan with 65 000 inahbitants. Placed well north of the arctic circle you will find a vibrant city with all services normally found only in larger towns. The university is the worlds northern most, and has become a thriving hub for almost 9000 students - against all odds. The town is a typical university town with an abundance of students and faculty from all over the world. In accordance with this, the number of pubs, cafes and restaurants is much larger than you would expect for such a small town. However Tromsø still boasts a large fishing fleet and fish-processing factory. Tromsø is considered the port to the arctic - this is where the arctic expeditions load up before they leave for northern waters.

The city architecture is not much to boast about, but the town more than makes up for it with its breathtaking surroundings. Steep alpmountains dive into the sea. There are abundant possibilities for all sorts of out-of-doors (extreme) sports such as mountain hiking, mountain climbing, diving, surfing, canoeing etc.
