Our home

This is a modern, spacious and comfortable home in a very quiet circle of quality properties. The house is north-facing so that every bedroom and living area enjoy all-day sun and have views of the Pauatahanui Inlet. The house is over two levels with the kitchen, dining room, lounge, family room and laundry on the top level, along with a separate wing containing the master bedroom/en suite. There is also a single bedroom upstairs and a third toilet. The ground floor includes 3 double bedrooms (one of which is now an art studio) and a bathroom with bath and separate shower. There are sundecks off both the lounge and family room. There is a paved patio at the rear of the property, with access from the kitchen. The patio has outdoor furniture, a large sun umbrella and BBQ, as well as a Jacuzzi for a wonderful hot soak under the stars before you go to bed.

Who we are

  1. We are John (68, recently retired) and Jan (62, hospital social worker). Our two children have left the nest so we have more time for ourselves. We have enjoyed many trips to Europe, Asia and Nth America over the years, in tour parties or self-drive, but always on the move and staying in hotels or B&Bs. We thoroughly enjoyed a home exchange in East Sussex a couple of years ago; slowing down the pace to enjoy exploring local surrounds in more detail; learning more about the local life-style and having the certainty of a homebase to return to at the end of the day. We are seeking another location, somewhere in the UK or France to replicate this experience and are flexible as to where that might be. As on our previous exchange we could be accompanied by another couple.

    We take great pride in having a very clean and comfortable home and will be looking for the same from our fellow Exchangers.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Whitby has a population of about 10,000 and is set on the shores of the Pauatahanui Inlet. It is just 25 minutes drive down a motorway to reach the centre of Wellington, NZ's capital city. Wellington is a beautiful harbour city with plenty of shopping, art galleries, museums, restaurants and bars, as befitting a small, modern metropolis. In between is the satellite city of Porirua with a large mall and mega-stores to satisfy any keen shopper. Whitby, itself, has a supermarket, pub and a wide range of ethnic eateries within 5-10 minutes drive from our home. There is an excellent train service that links all of these and other places. Being situated at the bottom of the North Island, you will be well-placed to travel north or south (ferry to the South Is) to take in the many scenic delights that NZ offers.

Best restaurants
There are a huge selection of restaurants in Wellington catering for every taste. Within a few minutes drive from our home there is Tuk Tuk (Thai), the Whitby Taj (Indian), the Coop (local pub with food), the Sandbar pub, and others
The Whitby Coop & Kitchen and The Sandbar at Mana provide some local nightlife but Wellington city is where most of the nightlife is centred.
Favourite cafés
Groundup on the inlet; Nish in Whitby, Ruby's in Mana;
