Our home

Our sunny and private home is a restful place yet is very quickly accessible to all the amenities of the capital city of New Zealand. The entrance hall leads you through French doors into the open plan living/dining/kitchen area which runs the length of one side of the house. Then step out through more French doors onto a very large (85 sq.m.) and sunny deck with outdoor furniture (dining table, chairs, and 2 loungers). Walk down 3 steps to a small sheltered (but still sunny) grassed area bordered by garden beds. The living areas of the house are entirely private, and the outlook from the kitchen and living areas is through to trees, green hills, open sky. The main guest bedroom has a queen-size bed and built in wardrobe. The single bedroom has a built-in wardrobe and a comfortable sofa bed. The en-suite has basin, shower and toilet; the main bathroom has basin, shower over a bath, and toilet. The kitchen is modern with every convenience - 4-burner gas hob, Scholtès oven and dishwasher, fridge with ice-maker and small freezer, basic microwave. Hot water is from a gas 'infinity' system (you never run out of hot water). The central heating is gas. The separate laundry includes a laundry tub, washing machine and dryer. If you have a car, you can park safely on the concrete apron in front of our garage.
We have a cat. If you're able to look after her, that's great. If not, she can stay at the cattery.

Who we are

  1. We have retired from paid work but are still very 'involved' in various ways. We are curious about the world - its people, its cultures, its differences - so we love to explore, and are happy to go pretty much anywhere. We are less interested in 'sightseeing' than we are in experiencing the day to day living of a community, of an area, of a culture. We are non-smokers and both of us are in excellent health. One of us understands (and tries to speak) a very little French. We are happy to look after pets. We consider ourselves to be a responsible, reliable, honest couple who endeavour always to treat others, and their homes, as we would like to be treated ourselves.

Your neighbourhood

Wellington is seen not just as the political capital of New Zealand but also as the 'cultural capital' with professional and amateur theatre, Royal NZ ballet, opera, the National Symphony Orchestra, movie theatres galore (Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings fame makes his home in Wellington, as does Weta Workshop - taking a tour there is a 'must'), plus the outdoor life which New Zealand is renowned for is at your doorstep. You can be in the wine area of the Wairarapa in about 1.5 hours, or you can catch a ferry and in 3.5 hours be in the glorious South Island with all it's rugged beauty and where there are more cows and sheep than people.
Wellington has been described by Lonely Planet Travel as "the coolest little capital in the world" and we think our suburb - Khandallah - might be the 'coolest little suburb'. It is a well established, very safe, suburb lovely to walk in, a 'village' feel, and good access to just about every amenity you could wish for. It is within easy and convenient access to the heart of Wellington city and excellent access to nearby public transport (bus and/or train).
We walk every day around our suburb, and in a few minutes can be looking at the beautiful Wellington harbour - after it's dark we often walk down to a lookout point to see the city and harbour lights. We live at the end of a short, private, driveway which we share with one other house who are our immediate neighbours and you couldn't ask for nicer people to live next to. All our neighbours are kind, helpful, and quietly friendly.
